Hi folks
considering all the bogus stuff around and dubious licenses for Office 2021 I can't see what's wrong for basic home use of continuing to use Office 2010 -- There's almost nothing extra in Word I need, Power point essentially the same, I don't need all the "Collaboration stuff" built in to office 2021 and most of the new functionality in EXCEL I can do anyway in EXCEL 2010 -- a bit more long winded but it works . Visio and Project 2010 still work to the level I need and have barely changed.

Since I have an Enterprise VL license (from the old Technet days -- incidently to any here who were on that program the keys still work for any software you got from that program) I can install this on any amount of VM's without issue.

For email outlook 2010 works for my needs and as for security WD is good enough to trap any potential security problems in using old discontinued software -- in any case I run email from a VM in any case.

I am not against using modern software but "Bang for Buck" I don't see Office/365 or Office 2021 as worth while when I can give family members Office 2010 for "Zilch"

These days we all need to save money -- even me !!" who unlike most is lucky enough to live where energy costs aren't a problem.

Cheers

Yes, the older Microsoft Office releases work just fine on W11. I have a purchased copy of Microsoft Office 2007, which I bought in 2007. I have it installed on my W11 and both of my W10 systems. For my needs, it works just fine. It seems to do everything I need it to do. It's great because I have the CD so I can easily reinstall it, if I need to.

I also have a old SubNote laptop that runs Windows 3.1 and has the Microsoft Office Suite installed. Back then it came with MS Draw. I hated it when they switched it out for MS Paint.

Hi folks

Even EXCEL Data query to remote MariaDB / MySQL data sources works perfectly (You need to install the 64 bit OBDC driver)

Test remote Maria DB (test DB so no "real personal data") to EXCEL 2010 -- From EXCEL --Data->get external data etc.

So for my needs on Windows where I don't have Office 2021 license -- it's fine. I do need the MariaDB query functionality to EXCEL and that's working OK as shown.
