Solved Format didn't format the whole disk

I tried to format a prior disk that was an OS boot disk. The format didn't format the whole disk. There is an EFI partition (100mb) and a recovery partition (788mb). How do I format those areas so I have a completely clean SSD with only one partition? I tried with Disk Management in the Computer management program but it wouldn't format those two partitions. The SSD is a 1TB drive.

You can use the clean command in the tutorial below to fully wipe the disk drive. Be sure to specify the correct drive.

I'll probably get around to doing this tomorrow. Up at 4am this morning to tackle some computer problems which took up many hours trying to figure some things out. Thanks 24H2 feature update. I tried buying a ASUS NUC 14 with a 9Ultra for a CPU. Had no choice for the 24H2 stuff. I finally decided to return it after wrestling with it yesterday and today. These update problems are just out of control. If anyone put out that kind of product with a high rate of issues they would go out of business. Sorry for my rant BUT... I should touch base with those here tomorrow sometime. Good thing I'm retired. huz-zah

You can use Rufus to fix this. This always happens to me after I try to format a USB that was created for install.

  • Select USB
  • Select Non bootable
  • Click start
