Frustrating junk mail

Hey Now I have a problem with Outlook: I have set so many rules to get rid of certain email sites, and nothing seems to work. The sites are those irritating gambling ones, especially those that include the word Casino in them, and despite making rules using the word casino in the sender's address, subject matter etc etc as a prompt for Outlook to delete them as they come in, they still pour in, and I am emptying the Junk mail perhaps twice or three times a day.
So can anyone let me know if they have the same problem or know how to fix this maddening issue with those gambling sites, please??
*Just for info I am running 25H2 and I am wondering if this has anything to do with this issue, as I am also getting a lot of security updates from Microsoft - something that just did not happen on my older Vivobook running 24H2.

You can try marking the email you don't want as a junk mail and block them but don't delete them for few days, so Outlook learns to block them.

Yes. I use Outlook 2021. I went without junk mail in my @microsoft account for many years since I had a throwaway account I used everywhere but with family and friends.
I was part of a hospital breach a couple of years ago and they got my email address. Now, I can't keep the junk out now. I've had the best results by blocking domains rather than by sender.

I've tried many other emails, Google included, and I always return to Outlook. Another MS product I really like that MS is doing all in their power to destroy is MS Word. Somewhere, some place there is a setting to fix your mail problem. Now I don't know if that feature comes with Outlook's free version or with Office but you can re-direct all emails you don't like to go to your recycle bin. Then simply empty your recycle bin after you log in. This works well for me. For really stubborn emails just mark them as "fishing" scams. I noticed that even if they're not really fishing scams they tend to disappear pretty fast after that.

I run both 24H2 and 25H2 on two separate PCs. Check your settings in Windows Update. You have to manually set them to "always ask". 25H2 won't do this if you set it to ask first.

Ok mate, but I don't know how to redirect those mails as I have tried all sorts of rules with no results, and I am not sure of how to block domains either. It sseems to me that whoever these ratbags are have just got more clever at wording their emails to bypass whatever rules I put in.

On a different tack, I will try that update stuff with the 25H2 I have on this machine - thanks.

There is a vague chance that you could have generated a conflict by selecting too many rules. You could try resetting the rules and carefully re-selecting the ones you want to keep. Here's a link on how to do this.

I have four email addresses. Two with Yahoo and two are Gmail. Only one of them (a Yahoo account) gets any spam. The one that gets spam is connected to an old (15-20 years) msn address for my wife. We had shut it down a long time ago but it apparently has a redirect built in and it gets spam. But it seems to be cyclical. I won't get any spam for months and then 15 or 20 a day. Most of the spam mentions some order ($) I made and contains a attached PDF invoice.

To get rid of the spam, I use the method that FreeBooter references. and let the application learn. Everything in the spam folder simply gets marked as spam and then I block them. Yahoo has a limit of 1,000 blocked addresses. I reached that limit about a year ago. I then deleted them all and then started again. Currently I have around 367 blocked addresses. For me, it works fine. After a while of blocking, the spam simply stops. Then they sell to old/worthless list of addresses to some other dupe.

I find the spam annoying, but I am not curious about the content. It's important to never ever open spam in your inbox. And certainly never attempt to open the PDF file.

Ok mate the only issue is that my vrsion of Outlook is not the same as in that video and I shall probably have to delete them one by one and I have about 108 but still if doing that has asome effect then that will be good because frankly the daily rush like today I found 47 this morning after emptying the folder last night so in just 5 hours those slipped in and again mostly Casino/gambling sites.

Now, K7MEM mate, I have to have a look at those alternatives, but being a creature of habit it's going ot be hard and it will mean letting every trusted site know and that is going to take ages unless I suppose I can set up two email accounts. Having said that, it only goes to complicate things eh?

All my email accounts are Gmail. 90% of them have an official looking, corporate style of moniker, never any spam.
My normal personal one is the only one that gets spam on occasion.

Spam is usually related to an infected PC or apps rather than the spam itself. It just pretends to be received, while it is actually generated via scripts. I have several emails, some decades old, I post them publicly and I get 1-2 spam emails per month.

As a spam and security filter, you can forward emails through several providers, I do GMX > Gmail > Outlook

I would say Spam is often do to websites have sold email addresses or you have had your email leaked from a website that have had a data-breach

I use the Swiss email provider Protonmail and I get zero spam, none whatsoever and I’ve been with them since 2019 on a subscription basis.

The only email account I ever had that got spammed, was Outlook using a Hotmail address. I had no option in the end but to permanently delete it and create a new Outlook address just to keep my MS account but it’s effectively unused and it never gets spam.

Yeah, I thought that could be the case but it should give some ideas. I've had mine since 1999, back when Hotmail was a thing. Those Casino sites are the worst. I still get the occasional one but it goes automatically to Junk folder. To be fair, I also use Kaspersky Premium and it seems to do a pretty good job guarding my email. I also use Protonmail but I don't much care for the GUI. Old and set in my ways, I guess. The best way to deal with those Casino sites IMO is to keep marking them as fishing scams. Eventually they die out.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. I reread my post and didn't suggest that you do anything but use the built in span filtering. There is no need to set up multiple email accounts and no need to let every trusted site know anything. I don't even know what you mean by trusted site is because I don't have any.

Does it take a while for the email application to learn? Absolutely. But it can be reduced to a simple mechanical operation, without causing any anxiety. One of the spammers goals is to frustrate the recipient and get him mad enough to take a look at the junk mail and infect your system. Another goal of the spammer is to cause you to start taking drastic measures and screw up your system. Don't let the spammers win.

Here's what I think may have happened. A site where you use your email was hacked and/or they sold your email address. Your email address is already on the market so you're options are limited to either finding a way to send the spam emails to the Trash or a Spam folder or creating a new email account. There may be other ways but that's the two ways that I know of. Unless they are accessing any websites that you need a password to enter I don't see how a new passwords would help.
