Getting slow internet with new router modem combo

Brand new Arris G34 router modem combo getting only 89mbps via cat6 ethernet connection. 600mbps is my ISP speed plan. Wifi is at 34mbps at best. Previous Arris SBG8300 had no issues with speed. My ISP tells me that everything looks good on their end.
Nothing inside the house has changed at all. Tomorrow they are sending out a technician to diagnose the problem

My ISP tells me that everything looks good on their end.

They just love saying that. They also like saying “did you turn it off and turn it back on again?”

Check for firmware updates.

If you’ve not changed anything, request them to look into it because saying everything looks OK at their end, is useless info for them to give you.
My ISP connects to my router and will stay on the phone for hours if need be. Then at the end of the day, send a tech if they can’t sort it remotely.

All ISP’s should offer the same service, that you are in fact paying for.

Thanks for the replies. My guess is that they'll check the line from the pole to the house and make sure it's OK, then check inside the house, and tell me it's the cable running into the router, which needs to be replaced, then charge me the technician fees because the problem was inside the house, which they do not own. The cable coming into the house is 5 years old, and is routed in the basement, then up the floor into my office. We have no animals or rodents so I'm anxious to see what they find. I did the firmware update, same results. I use Blink security cameras that will only work on 2.4....

Yeah, makes sense: 5Ghz is faster - but has low coverage (good for a device in same room with the rooter - or depends how thin are your walls), 2.4 GHz gets picked even by neighbors 2 houses away - thus - it's recommended for security cameras.

I just don't understand why the older router /modem worked as it should for 5 years and now the new one is giving me issues?
Or is it, like antspants replied?

...would definitely recommend. Was this provided by your ISP (supposedly, they could update the firmware - if any available).

As for Wi-Fi, might help - if you set that manually. Make sure it's on 5G and select the best bandwidth channels - which can be discovered/found - even using their own app (should have a embed a Wi-Fi spectrum analyzer).

Maybe as a paper weight.

The last 3 routers I have bought have been ASUS.
A. Because they have always just worked, for me.
B. Because I love the interface.

I believe they are, Danny. But full disclosure, I buy them like I said, because I like the simple to use interface and settings. Also, I do believe they are great. I have quite a large house. It sits at the front far corner of the house in the car garage. I have no issues when using it sitting at the opposite corner of the house, outside. Quite a few walls between us.
I can also use it at least two houses down if still on the road. But that’s just my luck maybe.

For a $200 budget, you could probably get a better ASUS. But the Aussie dollar is bad so when I bought the one above, it cost me about AU$350.00

Others that know more about networking and know what they are doing, might proffer other brands.

When I was using my own router I always went with Linksys routers. Now I use the modem/router provided by Comcast because I have switched from just Internet to Internet/VoIP.

I'm a Comcast/xfinity customer.

A few years ago, I was having issues. The tech found that the coax inside the house was the issue. He replaced it for at no charge.

I wonder if they'd still do that?

I'm currently using an xfinity "gateway". I tried a third-party modem/router that they supposedly certified for 1.2Gbps, but after going around with Comcast, I never got the data rate. Maybe they've got their act together by now.

For VoIP, I use Ooma. It seems to be a little flaky, but it's less than $7 US per month.

Well the line from the pole to the house is owned by Wow cable, and the line inside is owned by me. So technically I would have to pay for anything found faulty inside the house. With my luck it'll be my portion that is the issue....

If it's like it was when I had a ground line, I paid a small fee to insure all the wiring so I didn't have to worry about getting a repair bill. I think they were Bell Atlantic when I switched to the Comcast VoIP. I changed because the wiring in one of the boxes down the road was a total mess and I keep getting a lot of static. They would repair it and as soon as it rained the static would come back. One of the repairman was a friend of my dad and told us the wiring was so bad that it needed to be rewired. Something he doubted would ever happen
.For VoIP, I use Ooma. It seems to be a little flaky, but it's less than $7 US per month.
Less than $7.00 is a darn good price.

Well the line from the pole to the house is owned by Wow cable, and the line inside is owned by me. So technically I would have to pay for anything found faulty inside the house. With my luck it'll be my portion that is the issue....
Did you run your own cable from the outside of the house to the modem/router? If they ran the cable it should be on them.

I use Blink security cameras that will only work on 2.4....
You could always just add a second wifi point and just use the 2.4 for camera's and a other ssid for you laptop with faster access point.

I use a router with dual band, both 2.4ghz and 5g....
Unfortunately the new router has a bad wifi module so I'm returning it to amazon. Getting a netgear nighthawk on Wednesday....
