Solved hang/lag on my computer

Micron 2400 is a very mediocre drive. If he is 512GB, I would buy another.
If in the background something is written to the disk, then delays are possible.
i think mines at 900 somrthing gb if im not wrorng, it has half its storage remaining

If you are unwilling to undertake the steps to do "stuff like this" then it is likely you will not be able to discover the real issue. Should that be the case then yes, you will need to pay someone else to do it for you or have some generous individual do the work for you for free. This forum helps people help themselves. Simply chatting about it won't fix the issue. You will need to take some action if you expect to see a change in results. ;-)

If everything is very bad, then do a clean installation of Windows.

Clearly the problem isn't the battery. The OP has RAID controllers installed on their laptop. My question is, Why? It might be an idea to check in the BIOS and see if the laptop is configured for this. IF our friend has no intention of using RAID then those controllers should really be uninstalled. In that case it is likely that they may have to make a fresh install of Windows but not necessarily. I would try to see if it will boot in AHCI first.

It can if IRST was added recently or by accident and nothing is present for IRST to see and IRST isn't configured correctly. That does not mean this is the specific problem but you have some loose ends dangling there that should be dealt with. It wouldn't hurt to check your BIOS and see if it is set for RAID or for AHCI.
Reading Disk Manager: You have two hidden partitions. They don't look to be on that drive so what we need to determine is where they are.

Go to your Windows Start bar and in the search area type Command Prompt. Open Command Prompt. At the prompt type the following >> wmic volume list brief. Only type in what I have put here in green (no punctuation). Hit enter, and read what it says. Take a screen shot and show me what you have there. I know you don't want to do any fancy stuff so all I want to do is see if the PC sees the other drive at all. However . . .

I may need to get you later to List Disk so instead of getting anxious about it we'll just take baby steps to see why your second SSD won't show up.

In the future you may wish to consider some software like MiniTool Partition Wizard as this program will show you everything, hidden and otherwise, but for the moment we'll do this. As soon as you take your screen shot share it here.

You have asked what RAID is and there are countless videos and web pages that will explain it to you. Essentially it is a means of combining two or more hard drives to work together as one. BUT. . . There are many kinds of RAID and if it isn't configured correctly all sorts of wild hard drive errors can occur. What you have looks to be a failing hard drive but we need to be sure if that is the case. If it is merely a misconfiguration the problem can be easily remedied. But first we need to determine what we're working with here. There is no point to having RAID controllers if you are not using RAID.

One more thing: Check your connections to the drive. Sometimes they can get jarred loose, especially with mobile units.

I look forward to your reply.

thanks for the reply! ill try to do that command once im able to get on my laptop, but i do have minitool partation wizard if youd like anything from there instead! also what would list disk be?

ive also spoken to MSI employees abiut this situation and theyve adviced me to update my bios and do a windows reset as this could just be driver compatibility issues

Okay. Evidently your UEFI/ BIOS does not "see" any other drives on your laptop. MiniTool would also show you if you have any other drives connected in your laptop. If the name MSI Raiders is any indication as to why you have RAID controllers running in your laptop then I suppose you are best off leaving them there. Normally, you can access your UEFI/BIOS by repeatedly pressing F2 or the Delete button several times after your laptop boots to the display. However with MSI gaming laptops apparently it is CNTRL+SHIFT+ALT+F2 if you want to access advanced options. If you manage to get into your UEFI check and see if you're running RAID. You certainly will not be able to access any IDE features if you're running RAID. IF you contacted MSI and they recommend a BIOS upgrade then you should do this too. Personally, I have no idea why you are running IRST and RAID controllers on a laptop that only has one drive. To me this is pointless. You may wish to mention this to MSI as well.

You have a high end gaming laptop and it should still be under warranty. I would make certain that you don't have a warranty before attempting to open it.
Perhaps this video might be of some help.

No worries. Every UEFI/BIOS is different so I can't rightly say where your setting would be in an MSI platform. You can click on the tabs and check for things and as long as you don't check "save changes" you can just CTRL+ALT+DELETE and no changes will be made on the reboot. Your laptop should have come with a manual and it will tell you how to get to RAID settings. Sometimes you can find it on the same page where you find Secure Boot. MSI should also show you how to get to these settings on their support web site.

i did a bit of research and i think yeah the reason the RAID controllers exist is because i can configure it for RAID, so i dont think that should be anything odd??

It would seem that MSI only warranties your laptop for a year. I found this page for you in the event that you want to download the manual or the drivers and the new BIOS update.

You can find the manual in "Documentation".
thanks! i have the website sent by the msi employee too

however i really cant try it right now, so for now ill close this thread. when i do end up doing it in 3 weeks or so, ill make an update post maybe if anything else has gone wrong or if not just a small thank you

thanks everyone for the help and support through this
