Win 11 Home, Version 23H2 OS Build 22631.4169
I have a desktop system with OS on SSD (C:), two internal SATA HDD (D: and M:), and two USB external SATA HDD (S: and T:).
I'd like to 'spin-down' drives when not in use (is there a better term? I don't like 'turn off' since I don't want them powered off, and some external enclosures do have power buttons!). Most specifically, the external HDDs, since they are generally only used for backups at specific times, or for concentrated specific computer tasks.
1. is Power Management the correct/only/best place to do this?
2. do the settings made there apply to all HDDs uniformly?
3. can (any) settings be made to apply by individual disks/Drive Letters?
4. once spun-down, will individual disks only spin-up when accessed? For example. if my system backup to S: runs at 7pm, is over by 9pm, and I have a 60 minute spin-down setting, will that S: HDD stop spinning at 10pm and not spin back up until 7pm the next day?
5. am I correct that there are USB port settings that should be made/adjusted/considered as well when doing this? Where are they and what should they be?
6. are there other settings/software that are related/required?
And finally,
7. what did I forget to ask that I should have!
Thanks,
