Hi folks
Is there any downside / problems in using external docking bays to store o=classical 3.5 inch "Spinner" HDD's - they are normally installed horizontally in desktops etc.
I've some RSHTECH 2 bay devices where most of the HDD is " Vertically mounted with around 85% of the HDD in the open air" so cooling etc isn't a problem - probably better than some older desktops.
Mechanically the HDD's should be OK but any "data" on this ??. - Note though you should use Windows / Linux etc to "unmount / remove the device" before removing it - you don't want to remove it while it's still spinning !!!.
I'm happy with this type of arrangement so far - but any disadvantages -- these disks can be "semi-hotswapped" -- i.e unmount / remove a disk and then insert a new one and it should be recognized by Windows / Linux or whatever.
Cheers
