Updating a BIOS has always come with risks. It's why it helps to know what you're doing and how to escape a situation should one arise.

And now that I know what to expect, I know how to deal with it. And the solution is rather simple. And I see Windows Hello as a useful security feature. That's me.

As for using Window's Hello / BitLocker understanding is key. I have no issues using either but that's me. And it's not like you get a BIOS update every day, but your system's security is tested every day.

Security is especially important to me as I use a mobile computer. I spent a good bit of time reading about and understanding Windows Hello and BitLocker. I wouldn't leave home without them! :cool:

Yes, Windows Hello / BitLocker is really useful for mobile devices.

And BitLocker is especially useful by requiring the BL key to unlock the drive should it to be installed in another machine.

Wished I'd read this post before I updated my BIOS when trying to sort out a trackpad issue, as I just asked that question on the HP site. Thankfully I've got my passwords handy. A BIOS update isn't that common so I might just get rid of the PIN and go back to using a password.

Hi, I just want to follow up on this: Today I did another BIOS update and I loaded the default BIOS settings and Windows did not ask for the password. Then, I did a full CMOS reset (with a screwdriver). Even then, Windows did not ask for the password and it seems the TPM (Intel CPU integrated) did not reset.
It is even less clear to me now what the precise conditions are that cause Windows to ask for the password.

Update: Just now, minutes later, I am getting a warning by Windows Security:

So this time, Windows allowed me to login without password but it still wants me to reset the pin
