OS
win 11

Guys,
I have Lenovo Thinkpad Titanium X1, i5, win 11.

In the beginning I thought it is the screen, but then I used the screen to draw in MS Paint or OneNote and the screen is responding accurately and quick at the touch - so HW is ok.

As soon as I type, even in MS Word or browser to type an address on addressbar, it slows down, and sometimes it does not take the keys unless I type very sloooowly.

any help?

this is thin laptop, as per google "The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga does not feature a discrete GPU"
so it must be something simple.
I tried re-installing win 11 - same.
I tried drawing simple short lines quickly on MS Paint - it reacts quickly. So something is slowing down when typing on screen, even the sound that comes when you click on-screen keyboard is lagging, as if the CPU is too high, but it is not.

All GPUs have drivers that can be downloaded and installed.

See installing the newest version of drivers will help GPU driver for example.

Try clean boot state.

Agreed, definitely sounds like it could be drivers needing updating.

I'd also check anything hidden (minimized programs) in systray
as well as Ctrl + Shift + Esc
and see which processes were running in the background.

Also browser might need an update, have a bad plugin, etc.

For the record, when O+O ShutUp 10++ is used and configured well, it does improve performance due to less MS background traffic and processes.
Disable extra unnecessary widgets, etc.

After checking those, I'd also run a scan with SuperAntiSpyware (free https://https//www.superantispyware.com/free-edition.html www.superantispyware.com/free-edition.html) and Spybot Search & Destroy (also free Spybot Free Edition - Spybot Anti-Malware and Antivirus www.safer-networking.org/products/spybot-free-edition/) run immunization and then a malware scan. I notice that running them one after the other in that order the Spybot catches some extra things that SuperAntiSpyware didn't. That said, they're both great.

After doing those things, you'll likely know what was running in the background lagging things or need need of a tweak. (y)

Intel® Driver & Support Assistant www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html

Drivers Cloud can be quite helpful. Find all the drivers for download, update PC www.driverscloud.com/en
I've used both on many PCs, and they really come in handy. And, they're both free. Great resources.

is it the touch keyboard (modern)
%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\tabtip.exe

or the on-screen keyboard (classic)
%WinDir%\system32\osk.exe

?

guys, updated the drivers to 2024 with Interl Iris Xe - no improvement. However, with old drivers and the new drivers if I use the pen to click on keyboard it works flawless - so I would it is not the CPU, cause CPU would be impacted either way.
Keyboard - I am using on-screen keyboard, and also the one that pops up when you are in tablet mode.
App - I am using browser, but to eliminate any issues with potential extension, I tested typing in MS Word and Notepad - so notepad is pretty basis.

%WinDir%\system32\osk.exe

?
using %windir%\system32\osk.exe
On screen keyboard
and the modern one.

so if I start the write a short sentence, few letters are missed inside each word, cause basically it is glitching an catching the next letter, so somehow it is sluggish.

they both miss the first few letters?

try:
notepad (app)
wordpad
and classic notepad:
"C:\Windows\notepad.exe"

have to narrow down if its a processing issue from the programs lagging or if its a touch issue... the classic notepad.exe is the lightest test you'll be able to do so if it lags on there, you can set your processor to max and see if that changes it (only to test)

I tried notepad, and closed other programs.
I tried to use MS Paint and kind of do short lines or quick dots and do quickly kind to simulate touch issues and it works. so I have to rule out touch issues.

If I start to type sloow, and key the finger or sometime press 2-3 times eventually it will pick that letter. But is it not only one letter (thinking maybe it is one area of the screen) it is all different letters, and same letter few sentences would not respond until 2-3 times.

If it is new, I wouldn't bother fixing it. You should be able to use it right OOTB. Keyboard lag is a major issue because that will be the interface that you are going to use everyday. You may be able to remedy it now but it will still come back later so take it back and probably choose another laptop model or test the same model in store before taking it home.

it is not new, and I thought it is normal windows thing - we got so use to win issues, that I just took as ok, but then I purchased a Samsung Galaxy 3 360 Pro, and that works perfectly with On - Screen - Keyboard, that blew my mind, it was like iPad. Then I started to question why Thinkpad X1 is not behaving like this? Both are Win 11, Thinkpad is I5, and Galaxy i5, and to be honest just to type in Notepad should not consume much of CPU or RAM. So I started this quest of trying to fix it.

Change your title then. It is misleading. How are you suppose to return it if it is not new?

It doesn't matter of it's sealed or not. What matters is if you can get your money's worth. That's probably the same exact reason why it was returned. So do the same. Return it.
