OS
Windows 11 pro
Ok I don't know what to do here. I can't use my computer at all now. I now have no OS installed and no way to even reinstall it.

This computer was working fine since I built it over a year ago and now this :(

I started out with these two different Blue Screen errors just trying to restart my computer.

CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

It would not even let me load windows at all

So it told me to repair or reinstall Windows 11

It could not run repair so I tried reinstalling Windows 11 with a USB Boot drive

It initially allowed me to start the install. I was able to get so far as entering my Windows Serial key
and choosing which partition I wanted to install the OS in but then It failed after reaching 44% the first time.

After this the computer kept restarting to a screen saying continue upgrade or fresh install.

Both options just gave the same results as before.. Maybe I was lucky to enter the serial number but then computer restarts and bring s this install window up again

So I'm thinking it must be a hardware issue

I tried taking out all the RAM sticks except one .. But no change still the same thing

I tried to swap out the video card with a GTX 1080 and still the same thing!

Is it possible its unable to read the GTX 1080 properly?

I tried to use this original cable I use with the 1080 on my older computer but when I plug it into this one the PC won't even start?!

So then I tried to use the cable for this newer computer but it has this extra pair of connectors

Welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

That's a 6+2 connector. Just use the 6-pin "part" of that connector.
They're made that way on purpose, so they can fit either a 6 or an 8 pin connector.

@Ghot Ok good to know.

So that means this not the issue with the computer still continuously restarting and not being able to complete a Windows 11 Install.

What can I try next?

What about the other system partitions? Best practice in a bind is to delete (not just reformat) all partitions on the drive and then let the Windows installation process determine the systems partitions. Start the installation with an unallocated drive

Use Minitool Partition Wizard to delete all partitions on the drive, then later to repartition if required,

Your error messages and failed installations suggest something is wrong with RAM. You can download MemTest, use the included tool to create a bootable USB and boot the computer with that. This tests the whole RAM while the Windows version has no access to all the RAM area. You probably have more than one RAM modules. You have to test them one-by-one separately. So remove all modules and let only one. Test it, then remove it and test the next at the SAME slot.. If all modules pass the test at that slot, use the last module at another slot to see if the errors are due to faulty slot and not faulty RAM module. Then test the next slot and the next. If one of the modules fails the test, you have to install Windows only with the other RAM modules until you can replace it. If a slot fails the test, similarly, use only the other slots. If all RAM modules and all slots pass the test (one complete cycle should be enough), then I would check the hard disk or SSD.

Test RAM modules and RAM slots first. Then check disk. Most likely a module is faulty. You should see the screen filling red error text.

Test RAM modules and RAM slots first. Then check disk. Most likely a module is faulty. You should see the screen filling red error text.
Ok memory tests in progress.. Right now I can't run the SeaTools anyways ( see my previous post) so this is my only option ..

Well I'd prefer not to do that as it's a 4 TB drive and I don't remember what's on the other partitions but I have a lot of work on this computer.
I'm thinking I may just set up another hard drive just as the dedicated OS drive. I'll try this out once this memory test clears.

Given your stated predicament, I would say it's not an option not to delete, anyway. And in any case , there is absolutely no way you should be doing a re-install on a disk that's already got other data on it

Rule of thumb - no extraneous partitions, no other storage device(s) connected , when doing a clean install.

Otherwise, recipe for disaster. Will only end in tears (i.e. like, before you have to ask, use the search option in this forum for data recovery programs)

Excellent suggestion
- disconnect the existing 4TB HDD
- install/connect SSD (not just another HDD)
- clean install Windows
- reboot to check if it's OK
- connect HDD
- install partition management software (Mintool Partition Wizard and/or AOMEI Partition Master - both freeware versions)
- backup 4tb data (image or native format)
- delete ALL systems and OS partitions off the 4tb drive (make sure you get the correct 4tb drive!!)

You can also let the partitions as they are and simply select to clean install Windows on the previous Windows partition. This will move all your data to Windows.old folder where you can copy/paste anything after installation.

Nope this doesn't work.

I tried using Hiren's Boot CD to reformat the OS partition (again).

At first it looked like this helped. I restarted the computer with the Windows 11 Boot USB I made. This time it made it to 83% installation only to restart again.

Then I get this message

I chose the option to continue the upgrade and..

one nice thing is Hiren's Boot CD allowed me to see all my drives and content via its Windows 10 shell so I copied over everything from that SSD containing the OS partition to another SSD entirely.

@idgat I guess now I could try out just deleting out all the partitions on that SSD?

If I delete all the partitions on this SSD , disconnect the other two SSD drives, and then run a clean install of Windows that should be the same as installing on new SSD right?

@spapakons All of my RAM modules are working. I ran the test with 2 installed at a time. It took all day but it let me test 2 slots at the same time.
I'll go back and set the MemTest for the remaining two slots over night. I want to see if I can get this computer up and running again first.

Really, this is like trying to plug a failing dyke - as soon as you put your finger in one leak, another one appears. You can get endless number of suggestions thrown at your problem, but the fact is, it's now 3 days down the track and you still haven't got a viable working system. Cut your losses

- disconnect all drives except the target system drive
- delete ALL the partitions (this can be done from within the Windows installation process, just before the actual installation starts when you're offered the drive on which top install. Use the menu options to delete all partitions, one by one. For this process, you don't need Hirems or any other 3rd party software

Normally you should be able to delete all partitions the way described. If you encounter a tricky "recovery" partition or whatever else is called that doesn't allow you to delete, you can press SHIFT+F10 to open Command Prompt and use diskpart:

Code:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
clean
exit
exit

This will delete everything on selected disk. If you have two or more disks, replace 0 with the appropriate disk number. Then at the empty unallocated space, click next to start installing.

Ok so the good news I was able to reinstall Windows 11!

@spapakons There were so many little odd partitions besides the main ones. I guess they were created by my repeatedly trying and failing to install the OS. Anyhow I deleted all of them, left the hard drive as unallocated and installed Windows 11 on that.

It runs but there's definitely still something wrong here.

The computer still shuts down. It looks like trying to install certain programs is triggering it. I was able to install quite a bit without issues.

One program that just caused the computer to restart (and a bluescreen message did pop up for barely a sec before disappearing) is Visual Studio Community 2022.

I think the bluescreen error was the same as before about the Critical Process Dying.

But now at least I can look at the Event Viewer to see what's happening

Also just in moving files around to different partitions in windows there are some that are giving me these type of errors
