Help needed to revert to earlier bios

I'm not quite sure if this is the right section but - I have a used HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G1. Which has a touch screen. It worked perfectly well when I bought it, but then in a zest for updating, I updated it to the latest bios via HP. Well that messed it up! The touchscreen was messed up and developed bad ghosting down one side. To the point it was like having a poltergeist clicking on various random things. I thought I could just disable the touchscreen and use it. While that solved the ghost blobs, it didn't completely solve it as the mouse was still skitty at that side and still the occasional flash. So it became basically unusable. It was definitely the bios update that caused it - it happened straight after that. And a bit of googling (hindsight is a wonderful thing!) showed me it was an issue and had happened to others and was not a recommended bios update for that reason. It's quite an old laptop so there wasn't that much to find about it.

In fact I think it was HP support assistant installed the bios.

So I'm thinking about trying to downgrade the bios. On the HP website though, there aren't any earlier bios showing. Just the latest one (which should be banned!).

Does anyone know where I can find older/previous bios downloads for it or a tutorial for downgrading the bios (AI came up with one but may not be reliable!).

Thank you - I thought it was possible to reflash them with an earlier version (did that once before many years ago on a different computer!)

Dell & others allow you to roll back the BIOS.

Just to add - it's not just a screen issue or driver issue - it happens all the time, regardless of what is installed or what stage of install. As soon as the machine is switched on it starts, even when in bios settings or when doing updates etc.

The previous versions are right there under the Link provided. I see listed F.73 REV A dated Aug 20 2018 and on.

Does you MB have an dip switch for A-B bios? My old ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 that I'm using, it has a dip switch on the board where I can go into my bios and copy A-B or B-A.

Ok so I downloaded an older version that it had on when I got it. Clicking on that file allows you to create a bootable usb of it. Tried that. Set it up in bios and ran it. It failed. So then I tried downloading the version before the latest version. Clicked on that. No option to create a bootable usb, just an option to save the existing bios and install the new version. That worked and I'm downgraded by one set of bios. But it hasn't fixed the touchscreen issue.

So I'm wondering if I can keep going down one version at a time ........... will try that.

A BIOS update that is more than 6 years old?

I wonder what version was present before?

Yay that worked. I went down one version at a time so only went back two previous versions, and the touch screen is now fine

Just wondering if I should go back a couple more versions just in case!

Several thoughts here: First, are you sure this is nothing but a simple hardware issue regardless of the bios? You might try setting Bios defaults, especially after a bios flash, whether an upgrade or downgrade.

I'm almost 100% sure. It happened directly after the bios update. And is now fixed, having gone back two bios versions. No ghosting, no mouse jumping of it's own accord. All seems to working fine now - touch wood.

Additionally I read a post where someone had had the exact same issue after that bios update.

i wouldnt keep going. just disable hp assistant and make sure you dont update the bios anymore

Nope. I spoke too soon. Yes the screen is working and no flashing blobs clicking on things or taking over the mouse. But - Having just opened a window - the three blobs are still there - although they are static

It started up again, so disabled the touchscreen again. Even with the touchscreen disabled, it still does something on the right hand side and pulls the mouse over there.

I guess it's possible that a hardware issue occurred coincidentally when the bios update was done.
