Solved Help needed to play UHD Blu Ray

As for setting up madVR in MPC-HC, generally there should be no reason AFAIK to add it to the External Filters. Instead, just choose it as the renderer.

I just copy how I made it work. The guide I had read said to add LAV and MadVR in external filters. This is not enough, you must also set them all to "Preferred". If you skip this detail it won't work, as far as I remember.

As suspected, the guide insists on adding them as external filters in order to override whatever other settings you may have in MPC-HC or in general. Also they must be set to "preferred" to make sure they will be always used irrespectively of their merit value. I have checked, if I don't add them as external and I don't set them to "preferred" MPC-HC cannot open the UHD Blu Ray disc for playback. One known issue is that it plays the movie directly, it doesn't support menus in 4K discs, but you can navigate to a specific title from the application menu and of course you can select the audio language and subtitles from the respective settings. I have set Greek subtitles to display automatically, but I can select another subtitle if I want to.

If you apply the exact same settings in the internal LAV filters, it should work. The explanation from Admin in the link I posted is accurate; he is the same guy who actively maintains the MPC-HC project currently on GitHub, clsid2 (clsid on Doom9 forum).

I have other filters installed such as FFDshow in order to be able to edit videos in VirtualDub which is VFW (version 2 supports DirectShow codecs but sucks in frame rate conversion, the video stutters, so I mostly use the original version). I have set the preferred filter to FFDshow so I must use external filters in MPC-HC to override that setting.

Having installed other filters doesn't afftect MPC-HC if you don't add them in the external filters so then there is no need to override them in there; they should still work in VirtualDub etc. no matter whether you have also installed MPC-HC.

As far as I remember it didn't work for me. MPC-HC kept trying to open the UHD Blu Ray disc forever because probably it tried to use the default FFDshow filters instead of LAV. When I added LAV and MadVR filters in External section and made them preferred, it did work. My PC (2nd system specs) has a 3rd generation CPU without Intel SGX, so it is not officially UHD Blu Ray compliant and of course PowerDVD and other applications refuse to play the disc. Only VLC and MPC-HC allowed me to play the disc with the settings I mentioned.

From what I gather, adding LAV filters and madVR to the external filters in MPC-HC and making them preferred is not necessary because, instead, you can just copy the four dll files from %AppData%\aacs to the main folder of MPC-HC, i.e., %ProgramFiles(x86)%\K-Lite Codec Pack\MPC-HC64 if you have installed K-Lite Codec Pack Full (or Mega), which is what I recommend to get MPC-HC with madVR up and running (not like a boss, but more like the guy who actually invented wisdom itself kind of way, lol).

A word of warning: Cyberlink has just removed the ability to play 4K UHD Blu-ray disc/ISO file/folder with PowerDVD 22 Ultra, and all future versions of the program, since late last month.

The sad news is right here and here.

So, if you're still using PowerDVD 22 Ultra, don't update to the latest patch, and lock down your app so it won't download the update, like my example below.

Thanks for sharing. That's the reason why I still use Adobe Audition CC 2015, to be able to save as Dolby Digital (AC3). Newer versions have dropped support due to loyalties.
