HELP Why Is My Dell PC frequently, randomly freezing up

Hi, I'm a basic tech savvy person and I could really use some advice and or help on trying to figure out what is going on with my PC.

My home Dual drive Dell 8940 PC is maybe only 4 years old and for the last 2 years it will randomly just freeze up. Both my mouse and key board will not work and my screen is just frozen which forces me to do a hard reset to get things up and running. It will literally just do it out of no where sometimes more then once a day and then go for several days maybe a week without issue. I have scanned for virus's and malware, nothing. I have done a complete reinstall of the OS, but the issue just continues. I recently did a scan and I will past the results below and I'm hoping that maybe any of you experienced, PC savvy individuals my be able to make sense of what the report says and help me narrow down what the issue might be and help me fix it.

For reference if it makes a difference, my operating system is installed on my SSD Drive. I also have installed on that drive: MS Office, MacAfee, Quicken, Adobe and Chrome...

HI and thank you for responding. It is a desk top computer and I have the cover off it isn't a dust issue it also has a pretty substantial fan in it. the complete version is: Windows 11 24H2 OS Build 26100.2023 Where you able to look at that report results I proved and are you able to decipher any of it?

The issue actually started a couple of months before my warranty ran out, go figure,

I'm guessing you're on version 26100.2033. If so, know that sfc /scannow is broken.
Microsoft is aware of the situation, and has already fixed it in the Release Preview channel (Insiders)... so we should see the fix soon.

Everyone that's on 24H2... regular channel (non-Insider), has the same problem with sfc /scannow.




Sorry, whenever I hear DELL, I think laptop. No reason. :-)

I hope he sees my post and can help me. My main issue is NOT the Sfc /scannow not working, but good to know, my issue is why is my computer randomly freezing and i have to do a hard reset

Well, if it's not hardware or heat... it'll be software that's the cause.
The BSOD posting instructions are the fastest way to troubleshoot non-specific problems like yours.

There's probably a 100 different things that could be the cause of your problem.
The BSOD posting instructions are the quick way to sort through the possibilities.

@zbook will see that I mentioned him. But he's only one person.
It may take some time for him to appear. Either a couple hours, or maybe tomorrow.

On this forum, quoting someone, or adding an "@" symbol in front of their account name, will light up the notification bell (top right).

And if a person has their account set to deliver email notifications... they'll get an email telling them someone needs them and what topic they are in.

in my practice, when PC frequently freezing up,
1. motherboard problem. no fix. have to replace.
2. storage. change to another disk to test if you cannot rum disk check (in case, Sfc /scannow not working)
3. RAM issue. if you have 2X8 GB, you can take out 1st 8GB. then 2nd 8GB , , , one-by-one to isolate the problem.

modern PC seldom sees software conflict causing freezing up.

The best way to speed up this process, is to run the V2 Log collector as instructed in the BSOD posting instructions (linked above).

That way, when zbook does come online... he'll have the logs to peruse, at his finger tips.

NOTE: The V2 Logs are huge. You can't at5tach anything bigger than 2MB to a post.
You'll need to upload them to a file hosting site, like OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox... etc.
Then you can just put the link in your post.

Storage
your OS is on OS partition of storage disk. if any reason causes its error (electrical damage, mechanical damage, , ,. you can run crystaldiskinfo to obtain its info). you can move to another disk to see if the problem still occurs.

RAM
ram, under intensive running, might damage. you can take out one-by-one to isolate which one has a problem if occurrence.

After zbook goes through the V2 Log, he will KNOW where to start troubleshooting. ^^

We strongly suggest you Uninstall McAfee. using their Removal tool
McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool
Use Windows Security that comes with Windows. It works just as well if not better and it's free.

McAfee gives false positives, and can cause anomalies on your computer.

First off who is "we"? Second, I've been using MacAfee for YEARS and on several computers with no issues. Right now I'm just looking for help trying to narrow down and solve my current issue, but thank you for responding.

In this day and age, MacAfee is not really needed because Windows Defender is actually pretty good as long as your careful with your usage of the internet (like avoiding clicking on sketchy ads or visiting unsafe sites). In addition, it does use quite a lot of system resources in the background which could be contributing to your problem.
