For all my PCs I create a C:\Temp folder, set the security permissions to 'Everyone, full control' then share the Temp folder with sharing permissions set to 'Everyone, Full Control' too. I then use that shared folder for all my file transfers, moving the received files to somewhere else, if appropriate.

I use the same method @Bree uses. I have a special folder, AATemp (so named to keep it at the top of its drive list in FE) on each machine, and that's all I have shared. Anything that needs to be copied from one PC to the other can either be moved to AATemp first, and then copied to the other PC's AATemp, OR I can right-click the file I want to send to the other computer, and choose Send To ..., and with the AATemp folders mapped on all the PCs, AATemp on the other PCs shows up immediately as a place to Send the file to. That's the easiest way.

To access “C:” try Remote Desktop Connection. But you really only need access to the user folders and if you want to, setup the method that @Bree & @Wisewiz use.

- Type Remote Desktop Connection into the Windows Search bar and hit Enter.
- In the opening window, switch to the Local Resources tab and click on More.
- Expand the Drives option and tick Local Disk (C:). You can also choose other drives you want to share on the remote computer as well. Then, click OK to confirm the change.

- Return to the General tab. You should input the IP address and user name of the remote computer.
- Click Connect to establish the connection between the two computers.

While Remote Desktop Connection is available in Home, the PC you use it to connect to must be running Pro.

Just enable C$ on both PCs. Launch elevated Cmd on each pc and run:

REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system /v LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

reboot each after. Then on each, open file explorer and type \\pcname\c$ (replace pcname with the other computer’s name)

I have found a downside to networking my HP desktop and Dell laptop devices: -
Network discovery also sees other devices as well. If I click on Start>Devices & Printers I now see my smart TV '43PUS8555/12' is added to the 'Multimedia devices' list multiple times. A new icon gets added every time I switch on the TV so over a period of time these icons grow to become hundreds. Why it does this I don't know but I don't like it. I would be okay seeing just the one icon but not hundreds. The list looks so cluttered.

Because my laptop is only for occasional use I have disabled Network discovery and sharing. If I want to transfer anything from desktop to laptop on the odd occasion I will use a USB stick.
