Solved Home icon on the Desktop

Sometimes Home icon appears on my Desktop.
It disappears after pressing F5

Now i am in Windows 11 25H2. It happened in 23H2 too.
I dont remember well now but it also happened in Windows 10 too.

It appears because it's one of the standard desktop icons that you ought be be able to hide permanently were it not for the fact that Windows desktop display/refresh has been defective for decades.
You could try repeating the procedure to hide desktop icons.

It might or might not make a difference.

The symptoms come & go of their own accord.
I wasted weeks of my life searching for & trying out solutions.
None worked for more than a little while [I think the record was a few days].

If I get desktop refresh issues now I use F5 or I reboot.
I suppose it would be less disruptive to restart Explorer without doing a full reboot.

Thank you for answer @Try3 , but I want to show desktop icons. I am using desktop for working.
After my works finish I erase the files from desktop.

I remove common desktop icons like in THIS guide, i dont use ClassicStartMenu key, I only use NewStartPanel.
My Desktop is clean when idle.

F5 and restarting explorer remove Home icon but it apeears later again.

I tried that because of THIS guide.

I went to this key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel

Added a DWORD {f874310e-b6b7-47dc-bc84-b9e6b38f5903} with value data 1

And no solution

It appears again

Now i also added {f874310e-b6b7-47dc-bc84-b9e6b38f5903} with value data 1 in this key too
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu

Time will tell what happens...

You are using the procedure I suggested anyway - your link & my link are the same.
Don't be misled by the tutorial's name. It's only referring to those specific desktop icons. It does not restrict your ability to put any other files, folders or shortcuts you want on your desktop.

Sorry there were too many TABS were opened in my browser when i was answering.
That tutorial for certain items, but I am trying to find a solution, so i use CLSID of Home to see what will happen.

I also find another CLSID 679f85cb-0220-4080-b29b-5540cc05aab6
I will try this after some time has passed.

It seems that one 679f85cb-0220-4080-b29b-5540cc05aab6 is working for 1 week.

I mean; Home icon doesnt appear on desktop for 1 week after i applied to the registry.

I didnt try to add to HKLM locations, but even if adding that f874310e-b6b7-47dc-bc84-b9e6b38f5903 to HKCU
with REG (I use BAT instead of REG)

Yes it is a glitch also in Windows 10.

I have the same problem, the icon appears on the desktop and refreshes, messing up folders organization.

Even after following the previous posts, it doesn't work; the icon keeps appearing.

My Windows is updated to version 25H2 26200.8328.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I use Windows 11 25H2 Home Single Language (26200.8037)

If you apply the tweaks on previous posts you should fix the problem at Desktop.

But I realized Home icon appears also in Desktop in File Explorer too.

I have a script to fix that completely but you also need a small app named NSUDO or you have to change permissions of registry keys by hand and modify the script without NSUDO lines.

for NSUDO:

You need that file "NSudoC.exe" from that folder "NSudo 6.1.1811.18\x64\" I renamed it to "NSudo64.exe"
You should replace this file next to BAT Script

IMPORTANT: Windows Defender sees NSUDO as a threat and removes it.

I havent any problem or drastic impacts but I recommend you to make a complete registry backup before you apply this.

Post the errors so we can see what is the problem.

Also restart your computer after using the script.
