Windows 11 Home
I have a home network comprised of an Xfinity modem and TP-Link router that has worked flawlessly with windows 10 &7 for years. I got a new Acer Aspire Laptop running Windows 11 and have had multiple problems connecting to the network. I have to use an ethernet cable from my router to the laptop to get it to connect. However, periodically it drops the connection, or sometimes when I shut down and reboot it won't be connected. At those times I can find it on my computer but it won't accept my password login. I have to take it back out to the router and plug the ethernet cord in and it automatically accepts and connects to the newt work. I have: netsh winsock reset, ipconfig /released, netsh int ip reset, Ipconfig / renew, and ipconfig /flushdns ........checked drivers, and network connectors, changed my firewall and on and on.

I am ready to go back to windows 10.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry no one has answered you so I will do my best to help.

First could you please clear up a few points so I make sure I have the full picture.
Am I right in assuming that this new laptop has never been able to connect to your network wirelessly although it sees your ssid when you search for available networks?
When you connect through ethernet, you say it does connect but then the wired connection drops or doesn't reconnect at reboot.
Is there any pattern to when it loses the wired ip address... Such as after it comes out of sleep maybe..or does it drop connection randomly?
Note: If your problem occurs when your laptop wakes from sleep please report back. It may lie in your power configuration. I'm sure that the laptop uses modern standby which causes all kinds of problems.

You have already tried some of this but maybe not in this order. Try to connect wirelessly after each step. If you can connect after any step, you can stop.

1. Disconnect the ethernet cable and powercycle your router. Restart laptop

2. Run network troubleshooter. Settings- System-troubleshoot-other troubleshooters-Internet connections-RUN

3. Reset network adapters

4. Attached is @FreeBooter .bat file which resets network components. RIGHT click on the .bat file and select run as administrator.

5. Check for file system corruption. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
After system file checker completes, make note of whether it found and corrected any problems. If found and corrected, restart
If it found problems it could not correct, in command window type dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.
Restart

6. Change power settings for wireless adapter in Power Options. Control Panel-power options-Balanced should be checked
Next to balanced, click change plan settings
Click Change Advanced Power Settings
Expand Wireless Adapter Settings
Expand Power Saving Mode
Under Setting change it to Maximum Performance

7. Open Control Panel-device manager
Expand Network Adapters
Right click on your wireless adapter and select properties
In Power Management tab- Uncheck 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'

Note: Changing these power settings uses more power, thereby affecting your battery if you use the device on battery power.

I hope one of these will help you.

Sorry I didn't make my issue clear. I have connected the wifi network and internet, but have to connect the ethernet cable to get the original connection. However, since then the connection drops, intermittently, when I close and restart my computer and at other odd times. In each of these instances, Windows 11 will not accept my wifi login and I have to reconnect my ethernet and immediately my wifi connects. I have reset my network adapter, many times,
Now I have a bigger issue: I downloaded Intel Driver and Support Assistant to install updated wireless adapters. Since doing that I can not connect to my network/internet whatsoever. I have reset everything I know of and am now completely lost. UGH!

run uninstall the network adapter and restart it, and let it search your computer for the drivers...

I'm leaning more toward this being a hardware problem myself. For giggles and grins, disable the ethernet adapter in device manager and see if the wireless even attempts to connect.

So I am thru glasskuter's step 5 and have disabled my ethernet driver without any results. I, also, uninstalled the network driver and rebooted without any results. My network shows up on wifi and is marked "connect automatically. It attempts to connect but fails, then I attempt a manual connect and it takes my network password but comes back with "can't connect with this network:.

You've tried everything else so you might as well try this. Settings-Network & Internet” and then pick the Wi-Fi option-Manage Known Networks-select your network-Click “Forget". Restart and select your network from available networks and enter your network password again.

If it still fails I'm out of ideas other than trying a repair install or, since your laptop is new, if it were me I would perform a system reset with remove everything. This would reinstall windows and be just as it was when it came out of the box. Do this with ethernet disconnected. Part of the setup procedure has you go online. Enter your wireless credentials. If it fails to connect at that step, IMO it would point to your wireless adapter (or your router).

repair install Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial

Reset and remove everything-use option 2 with remove everything

So I had meetings last night and couldn't get on my laptop so this morning I was working on my other computer and decided to get on the Acer and low and behold the network connection is working. I have no idea why or how long but I am using it to communicate now. Frankly, I am afraid to touch anything.......until it quits working,

Finally, finally, I found out what my problem was.....an Xfinity modem. I was using a Netgear modem and a TP-Link router and all was fine. To get a better internet package deal Comcast forced me to use their Xfinity modem/router. Unknowing the modem also functioned as a router, I had two routers hooked up and functioning at the same time. Once I discovered that I got rid of the TP-Link router but then everything got worse. I couldn't get my printer on the network. Come to find out my Brother printer runs on 2.4 GHz and the new Xfinity modem/router was only accepting 5 GHz hookups. It is supposed to accept both but isn't. I had to go into the Xfinity gateway and "bridge" it which shut down the modem capabilities. I reinstalled my TP-Link router and it handles both speeds and then everything was on the network and functioning. On the network are 13 devices and all functioning correctly.

You know what I hate about Windows 11 Networking?

There is no easy way to disable and enable the ethernet port, the way Windows 10 allowed you to do it. What imbecile at microsoft thought that not having these options at easy reach was a good idea? So many things have become harder to do in Windows 11, its like no one at all studied why Windows 10 was so good, and loved by people... they just ignored it all and tried to re-invent the wheel.

This is the sort of thing that happens when you get programming teams in 3rd world countries to code because it will save you money. All the benefits and lessons learnt go out the window, and when Apu suddenly becomes an expert and demands a raise, they come out with windows 12 coded by whatever resource starved country is willing to do it for cheaper and will forget everything learnt in windows 11 because that means paying Apu a living wage. Can't have that.

You would think a company like MS who is in the green would not be so dumb, but yah this is the sort of thing that allows top execs to short term bonus themselves out at the expense of the future user base who is pulling hairs.

I kid you not, you no longer can you disable the NIC, with a click, enable and disable, like you used to in windows 10. You could see all the NIC's the greyed ones had drivers but were not enabled, so much info at ONE GLANCE, instead they give you the "Hey I AM A DUMBASS" Menu, that is supposed to be easier for people who push on doors that say pull. Designing an OS for the lowest common denominator gets you nowhere, look at OSX such crap, they still wont use a 2nd mouse button, because its sacralige, who cares if its easier and all the mice in the world have a 2nd mouse button, they treat their customers like total idiots and instead teach them stupid mouse tricks to do tasks that a 2nd mouse button can easily do with a click. Couse OS's are like religions, usability what is that?

Do they even listen to people anymore?
