You can't disable Microsoft Edge, however you can stop it from starting at boot time.


If you don't want Microsoft Edge to start when you sign in to Windows, you can change this in Windows Settings.


1. Go to Start > Settings .


2. Select Accounts > Sign-in options.


3. Turn off Automatically save my restartable apps and restart them when I sign in.

You could also use Edge Redirect. If you simply block Edge you’re going to lose some functions in Windows.
For instance, web search results in Windows Search (Windows key + S) Unless of course you have disabled them, are Edge specific links. So if you click on one in the search, Windows is going to tell you that you need a program to open it, because Edge is disabled or gone.

Microsoft Edge Redirect. It prevents Edge from hijacking the default browser and search preferences and other scenarios..

I downloaded it and my anti-virus went ballistic and removed it. Showed a malware file.

Well, plenty of us use it, it sounds like an antivirus false positive because it is changing system processes.
You’ll have to exclude it from your AV or not use it if you’re not comfortable.

You can uninstall it by running Chris Titus' Toolbox.

Open up Powershell as Admin and run this
