Solved How can I do a clean install (updating to) Windows 11 23H2 without losing Office 2021

Dual boot Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (b 19045.4291) & Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (b 22631.3447)
Hello everyone,

I am contemplating an upgrade to update 23H2 (in Windows 11); however, I currently have MS Office 2021 installed on my machine. How can I do a clean install of 23H2 without losing Office 2021? I am concerned about reinstalling Office but not getting through the authorization because I already have it installed (on 22H2). I'm not doing a dual boot, but I know if I do a clean install I'll have to wipe out everything currently on my disk drive. Can I still reinstall Office and authorize on the clean (re)install of Windows 11 or would I have to get a new product key?

Go to Settings/Accounts to double check that you see MSO 21 there.

Hi OAT,

Unfortunately, I don't see Office under Accounts. I don't use a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows either (if that matters).

Unless you're having issues with W11 and need a clean install, you could just install the enablement package below to go from 22H2 to 23H2 without losing anything, then check for any other available updates afterwards.

Not if you use the Enablement Package as described in #4.
I did the same method (longer ago, oct. 2023):
- Lost none from my installed programs
- No Windows-Old folder, because this is not an 'In place upgrade'.
