Hello, and welcome. :alien:

You can use an option in the tutorial below to increase the DPI scaling level to make everything appear larger without changing the screen resolution.

My scaling by default was set as "150%".
I have now increased it to 175%, but I don't want to go much larger than that.
But is there any way to increase the size of the Start Menu? Because I want to fit more stuff on it...!

You could change the Start layout to show more pins or recommendations to help some.

Otherwise, you'll need to use a third party program like "StartAllBack" to customize the Start Menu.

OK (reluctantly) I am trying StartAllBack. But I still can't see how to create a "Quick Start" type menu.
i.e. What really I want is an area of the bottom of the screen onto which I can drag either applications or individual files.

Failing that I would like a large Start Menu area that behaves the same way.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like your wanting something like the taskbar Toolbar that has been removed in Windows 11.

If so, then the closest you can get natively is to pin a folder to the taskbar. It'll open the folder instead of a menu though.

With the native W11 Menu, the dpi won't make a difference..., you'll get the same amount of real estate per dpi, either way...

0007407.jpg

... with SAB, lower dpi will get you more space...

New problem! With StartAllBack ("SAB") I am getting an Open File "security warning" in every shortcut. Is there any way around this?

Weirdly, I can't even find the application file anywhere... (The only way to open it appears to be to Right-Click on the windows Start button).

(I don't know anything about the security warning!)

You can also right click an empty space on the SAB Menu itself...

OK I have solved the security warning issue. For some (idiot) reason, Win11 doesn't like it when I open files from C:\Users\alecs\Favorites\Links
But if I create a new folder called C:\zz_Quick Launch, then it seems fine!

[deep sigh] :eyeroll::eyeroll:

This will cost you money:

Startdock Start11 allows you to customise both the start menu and the taskbar.

You can set the start menu to look and operate like Windows 7, 10, 11 both traditional or modern styles or a mix I believe.

IMG_4849.jpeg

As for the taskbar, Start11 can customise the taskbar. You can make it float or static at the bottom or top, give it rounded corners, small, medium or large icons and other attributes.
A good thing about Start11 is that you can pin folders to the taskbar and they will operate like a menu.

IMG_4848.jpeg

To do it justice you would need to go to the site or community forum.
The pricing obviously varies between countries. It is more expensive than StartAllBack.
There is a 30 day free trial.

    …still on a horse.
There are some older people that I have installed Start11 for, that like the old Windows 10 style start menu due to their poor eyesight, and like the large icons that can be added to the menu (if you remember Windows 10 menu?) This menu can be stretched to utilise the entire screen.
