How did I end up with 186,000 bookmarks?

I have 3 email accounts and have been using Chrome on my phone exclusively for about 6 months.

Recently I have been getting messages that my bookmarks are not being saved and telling me to back them up. But since there are 186,000 of them, I don't know how to do this.

Where did all these bookmarks come from? And more importantly, how do I back them up on a flashdrive? I ultimately want to dedupe them. Is there software that can handle this volume of data?

Please advise, thanks

    This is the 2nd system that I'm currently using to try to get System 1 up and running.
How did you determine you had 186,000 bookmarks rather than 187,000?

Did you find them in some particular folder?

Have you tried exporting the Bookmarks from Chrome in Windows to a file?
" To export bookmarks from Chrome, open the Chrome browser, click on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, select "Bookmarks," then "Bookmark Manager." From there, click on the three-dot menu in the Bookmark Manager and choose "Export Bookmarks" to save them as an HTML file"

To mange Bookmarks in Chrome on Windows there are extensions for managing bookmarks such as Bookmark Dupes or Bookmarks Clean Up.

I would be scanning devices for Malware as well.

Have you got your phone set up to backup settings to a Google email account?

There are 2 common causes; sync corruption or an import loop where bookmarks are repeatedly being imported over and over. This can happen in any browser wherein one is syncing.

To prove which is your cause, WHILE VIEWING THIS THREAD, I suggest you open co-pilot and ask "Why am I seeing thousands of bookmarks In xxxxx browser" ( where xxxxx is the name of your browser)Co-pilot's instructions are too long for me to copy here and it will need your input to walk you entirely thru the process.

I got a report of Chrome and Chrome OS data in my account, and they were listed there: 186,563 bookmarks in one of my Gmail accounts.

As far as your history, again if you are syncing your history, it is using a massive amount of Google Drive data space. Do you not ever clear your browser cache?
