Solved How do I autologin with just a numerical PIN?

I am not sure exactly where to put this question in the Elevenforum Topics, so I'll just post it here in General Support for lack of a better topic.

I sign in to daily and quite often in the same day to Windows 11 and it asks me for my PIN and I give it a numerical PIN and it signs in just fine and I go on with my computer work. That all sounds well and good, but I'd like to have the computer just sign-in automatically since I am the only person who ever sees or touches my computer. So an automatic sign-in in seems to be the way to go. So I did a web search and found different methods for performing this seemingly simple task (such as netplwiz and cmpmgmt.msc and the registry entries). All of them have failed on me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. All I want is to be able to tell Windows once for all time what my numerical PIN is and be done with it and have it stop asking me multiple times every day.

Any suggestion(s) as to a way (or ways) to accomplish this seemingly simple task???

Press the Windows key + R to start Run, type netplwiz, and press Enter or click OK.

Now uncheck the box writing Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.

After you click Apply, you will be asked for the password to validate the change, enter your email login password.

Like yourself, I am the only one with access to my computers. That is, unless my dogs want to give it a try. With my laptop, the only time I have to do a Windows login is when I reboot for an update. Normally, when I am done using my laptop, I simply close the lid and the laptop goes into hibernation. When I want to work again, I open the lid, push the start button, and wait 20-30 seconds. When the laptop is ready, all my windows are still running and I just go back to work. No login required.

I also have a desktop for my radios. Like the laptop, I only have to log in after a reboot for an update. The desktop has a remote keyboard and mouse. When I am done using it, I just turn them both off and walk away. In a few minutes, the screen will blank out and the system will go to sleep. When I am ready to use it again, I just turn the keyboard and mouse back on and hit the escape key. I'm right back to where I was before. Again, no login.

One setting that's usually overlooked is in Settings -accounts -sign-in options -Additional settings - turn off "For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device". That allows the box to show to be un-ticked for "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer."

Option 2 is not recommended.

I think you are trying to enter your PIN instead of your password in netplwiz. As far as I know it requires your password, not your PIN. If you have a local account or if you convert your Microsoft account to local, you can even remove the password completely. Unless you have a child or anyone else who could try accessing your computer without your permission. I would normally not have a problem my child playing on my computer, but he is bound to damage it, so I would rather do it in my presence preferably using his own restricted account while mine is locked.

Actually I am trying to enter my password, not my PIN, using netplwiz. It's just that now after fiddling with it so much, I've lost what the password really is now. So I am attempting to reset it, but I have to wait now until tomorrow for some unknown reason.

I do not have any children in the house or even have one ever visit. There's just my wife and me in the house and she NEVER touches my computer, only her own. Therefore, I have no fear of unlocking the computer permanently.

I finally got Microsoft to accept the new password that I wanted to have. (Yea!!!) I used netplwiz to put that password in so my PC will auto-boot and IT WORKS!!!

Problem finally truly solved.
