Bought a new wifi 6 adapter for my surface pro 5 as the built in wifi was struggling to stream games. Its got a blue light on it so I can see when its using power and it also gets warm in use.
Whenever I close the device (I always leave the keyboard attached) it goes in to sleep as it should but the blue light stays on on the adapter and even after several hours its still warm to the touch and this happens on ac power or battery.
Aside from draining the battery and wasting power, i usually fall asleep with the device still turned on and have it next to me on the bed with it set to go in to sleep mode after a while so I'm also worried about the fire risk as it gets pretty warm.
How can I make the usb adapter or the usb slot cut power entirely when in sleep mode? I tried a bit of googling but nothing so far has worked. I've tried looking in the bios but the surface has a very minimal bios with nothing to adjust power or usb settings. The network adapter its self has no power options in device manager, i've tried usb selective suspend in power management both on and off with no difference, i've gone into the windows settings and to usb and checked 'stop devices when my screen is off' and the usb root hub in device manager is set to 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.
I'm all out of ideas now, anyone here able to assist please?
