Solved How do I make the system put Documents, Videos, Music, Downloads,etc to an internal SATA drive

I have a C drive on SSD, and have a SATA internal drive (F) that I want to use to send Music, Downloads, Documents, Pictures, Videos, for storage, automatically. Currently they go to:

"C:\Users\there\OneDrive\Documents"

I have no interest in using OneDrive, and frankly thought I had deleted it. Its like a bad penny, it keeps coming back.

I want to change to: F:\Documents and the same for all of the other.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I have no idea why the user name on the C drive is "there" instead of my name. "There" is the first 5 letters of my email address.

Right click on each folder Properties>>>Location>>>Move and point to your SSD.

They are already in the SSD, I want to move them to the SATA. What do you mean point to the SSD?

Also, when I right click on the folder, then properties, there is no option to "move"a

Settings > System > Storage > Advanced > Where new content is saved.

This is because your using a microsoft account, which is how onedrive activated. Once you uninstalled onedrive, you have to manually move your files back to the users profile folder with your name and the reguler documents folder instead of the onedrive > documents folder.

If you already uninstalled it and moved your files to where they should be, you can delete the onedrive folder.

My secondary drive (Data [D]) is an HDD, so the path I use is as follows:

This PC\Data (D)\ Now, as long as I follow that path, Anything I save will go on my data drive.

So now I open Data (D) and create new folders for the files I want to keep on my data drive, such as "Documents", "Downloads", etc. Say I have pictures, business documents, funny things I've picked up, and I want them all under documents. I then open my documents folder and create subfolders in there. I think you should have the Gist of what I'm talking about now.

You CAN NOT Just arbitrarily uninstall Onedrive. There is a proper sequence of events. I suggest you create an system image before proceeding.

1. You must first turn off folder syncing to onedrive

2. Then MANUALLY MOVE the files to another location. Create the following folder on you other drive; Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Videos.

Once you do this the files you have in onedrive will remain there until you login to Onedrive on the Web and delete them.

If you want any of your other personal folders moved to the new drive, create a folder on the new drive and use the same procedure (as in step 2) to move any other folder to that drive (such as downloads). Ankles are fine. The problem is learning to walk again. I'm doing ok with a walker but it's killing my back. I am practicing walking between parallel bars and so far have mastered three or four steps several times. I will get there but it's a slow process. I do this while waiting for the physical therapist to get back to me when out my timer is up on whatever I'm doing.

Wy, yes it's involved but when one's folders are in in onedrive, doesn't want to use onedrive at all, wants to keep his default folders consistent to where certain file types are automatically saved, and does not want onedrive issues to come back and bite him in the butt, there is only one method to insure it doesn't. That's Brink's way. It's an absolute nightmare to deal with when onedrive screws everything up.

Sure we can manually save any file in any folder anywhere, but a lot of apps depend on our default folder paths.

So glad to hear you are on the mend, no matter how slow it seems to be. I knew you wouldn't let it beat you.

Since XP or even W95 I never use default windows folders for storage or downloads, always on another physical disk and own folders appropriately named. It's easiest to set browser to save to another disk and folder. Every one has that option. Other types of files, depending on which program they generated them, either in that program or if there's no set disk/folder windows remembers last place.
At first it was in order not to lose them in case of system or disk failure because disks were not all that reliable but also not very high capacity. At those times HDDs were barely 50-250GB and windows needed at least 10% or 10GB to work properly which limited storage capacity even further. Constant writing and deleting files led to fragmentation and slowdowns slowing windows operations.
Nowadays, beside cluttering reason, personal and other files staying in default folders would make backup larger and slower. Moving default Windows folders can be risky because of permissions and if you have to fix or reinstall windows they would be recreated on OS dive anyway but now empty.

On my computers I leave the Desktop on drive C:, Pictures and Documents are on OneDrive, Downloads, Music and Videos are on drive D:.

Do I have to be signed in to my MS account? Also, I did find the Location and Move, but that was when I clicked on the folders in the One Drive. Is that the ones you meant? The only one that gave me that, however, was the Desktop folder. The Documents, Videos, Downloads, Music folders don;t have it. On the Desktop one, I clicked on Properties, and then Location, and Move. The only place it "seemed" to allow me to move it was to Desktop? And not on the F Drive which is the HDD. P.S. The tutorial that shows how to shut off syncing showed a tab to turn on or off. My system says, not syncing, and there was no on or off tab.
As info, I did a system back up before I started.

If your documents, desktop, videos, and music folder automatically defaulted to one drive it was because you set up a MS account. So yes.

No. You should be going to file explorer. In the left navigation pane right click,use the PINNED folders. Do not open the Onedrive folder.Right click on each folder, select properties and follow the tutorials on how to move to another location.

Before you can move these 4 folders to another drive your have to manually create 4 new folders on that drive: Documents, Desktop, Music, Videos
When you redirect the folders using the tutorial, that is the new path you direct them to.

I forgot to also ask do you use Office 365? That's another issue if you do as 365 automatically saves to onedrive. You have to manually choose where you want to save when you create a document.

Yes, I do. And I always manually tell everything where to save, with the exception of downloads.
