Other than mouse and keyboard, what usb devices do you have plugged in? Is the sound you randomly hear the same sound you hear when you connect/disconnect a usb device?

Also do you connect devices through a usb hub?

The only usb devices that are always connected are a simple and cheap mouse and keyboard. Both logitech. I do plug a USB stick into my computer frequently, but I don't think that has anything to do with it because it beeps regardless of the USB stick being attached or not.

Not sure on the sound.. But next time it beeps at me (don't worry, it won't be long), I'll pay attention to it and then compare it to a USB port being activated.

You may like to try the following? Prevent Windows from Putting USB Devices to Sleep may help:

Disable USB Selective Suspend via Power Options
  • Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter.
  • Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  • Click Change plan settings next to your active plan.
  • Click Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting.
  • Set both On battery and Plugged in to Disabled.
  • Click Apply, then OK.

Also: Prevent Windows from Turning Off USB Devices to Save Power
  • Press Win + X, then choose Device Manager.
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Right-click each USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub, then click Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  • Click OK.
  • Repeat for all hubs listed.

It is the sound the USB makes when disconnecting the USB.. and if it's not, it's very close to the same. Just did it again and took me a few seconds to pay attention to it and then put a USB stick in to compare. USB going in was a different sound, but pulling it out was the same.

What a nightmare.. I bet I unchecked no fewer than 30 of those stupid boxes a couple weeks ago. USB ports kept going to sleep and I'd have to disconnect my mouse and put it into a different port. Hunted them all down.. First ones in device manager, then more in other power settings.

Do this:

To check to see if any wake-on-demand tick boxes in Device Manager are still ticked off, then run this CMD command as an admin

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

It will list what's still currently active and needs to be unticked

~

To disable a specific device, for example run:

powercfg /devicedisablewake "NFC USB Bus Driver"

The return I get lists my keyboard and my mouse.

But I went through every device in my device manager one at a time and un-checked every power saving setting. The only checks left are on the keyboard and mouse, it's its not "allow to sleep", it's "allow to wake the computer".

computer is already awake when it's beeping at me. Dang, just did it again while typing this..

Try unplugging both, see if the beeps still occur?
Or one at a time so you can hopefully determine if it’s one or the other causing this torture.

I've had the problem twice. Once it was an external drive plugged into a an unpowered usb . Using a powered usb hub fixed that.
The last time it happened I narrowed it down to my wireless mouse receiver that was plugged into a rear usb 2.0 port. It happened on any usb port and different logitech mice. I took a usb extension cable, ran it from the port and taped it to the edge of my monitor to use for the mouse receiver. Once I got the receiver closer to the mouse it hasn't happened since.

We might be on to something.. It just did it to me WHILE I was moving my mouse to click something, and the mouse froze for a 1/4 second.. Would have never noticed it if I wasn't actively moving and tracking it to click on something.

But it's just a USB Logitech mouse.. the cheapest one on Amazon.. and it's a hardwired mouse, not bluetooth.

If possible try another mouse to see if it stops or try the mouse in another device to see if you get the beep. I'm thinking that there could be a problem with the cord coming out of the mouse.
