Solved How to delete windows.old folder ?

Hi

After windows get updated I got this folder windows.old and when I tried to remove it display I dont have a permission. Any solution ?

Disk Cleanup will remove it.
Assuming the "new" Disk Cleanup can still do that.

If you use another (maybe free) tool to make images of your partition, you won't be able to use that.

And why would you, if there's a useful tool inside Disk Cleanup in Windows?

It does, just tested it in my test system with Win11 24H2.

True but can also be done with other backup software’s boot media. The cmd will still work.
In my case Disk cleanup hasn’t removed the Windows.old folder on occasion so I use this if it doesn’t work.

I don't need backup software to remove an unwanted folder.

I just use the Hirens Boot CD (on USB-flash) for that, which starts an independent Windows 10 or 11 environment from USB-flashdrive.
Or any other startup flashdrive that provides entrance to the C: drive.

Edit: corrected independant into independent.
