How to empty the LCU-folder in Win11 ? Easy to remove it in Win10 , not in Win11 !
After latest update its about 1GB ..........how (?) to empty this LCU-folder in servicing (Windows) ??

I dont even have this folder :O So takes up 0 on mine, Went in the directory where people say it usually is and zilch.
Question, Outta curiosity...Do you need the 1gb space or...

Run this in an elevated command prompt. This will remove all but the last folder in the LCU folder.

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup


The remaining folder will be about 1.2GB

Every time we have a Windows Update, it puts a new folder in the LCU folder. They are each about 1.2GB.
Personally, I just run that command after each Windows Update, to keep the size of the LCU folder... down.

I do the same on Windows 10, for the same reason.


Just did this today, after the Windows Update...

There's no LCU folder in the Dev channel as it hasn't been created is my guess (no CU updates). As for the production Windows see this thread,

Can't Delete LCU Folder

In Windows 10 I like. to delete the large contents of the LCU folder after each update here C:\Windows\servicing\LCU Windows 11 won't let me delete the file since I get the message shown below. How can I force this deletion? Update - I used the reg file fix on Ten Forums to add Take Ownership...

Didn't even know it was a thing, never caused me an issue or reason to want to get rid.

I don't have a LCU folder either and I'm running the latest Dev version of Windows..

The other folders in C:\Windows\servicing are small and well under 300MB.

True.. but at the moment I have no idea why it's there.. I would love to know what's in the folder.. that might help explain it's purpose.

You just need to take full ownership of the LCU folder then the contents can be deleted.
I had to do that after I installed Windows 11.
