Yes, if you move your finger slowly on the touchpad, the cursor moves slowly. The next time you use a touchpad, try using a quick movement, and you'll be surprised to find that the cursor movement is proportional to how quickly you move. If you move quickly from one side to the other on your touchpad, the cursor will easily move from far left to far right or from top to bottom in one quick motion.
A mental turning point for me was a few years ago when I tried making my signature with a mouse. I couldn't make a signature that was even recognizable. I then tried making my signature with my touchpad and it worked superbly. That's when I realized I had much more control with my touchpad than I had with a mouse. I spent time learning to use the touchpad with light touches, single and double taps to drag and drop. I learned how to use quick one finger movements, two finger fast and slow scrolls in any direction, three finger scrolls for sound volume. I learned to control speed and accuracy.
Using a touchpad is a learned skill, much like playing a musical instrument. At this point I could never go back to using a physical mouse.
I've made my living for more than twenty years using Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation. I trade using charts. I do short term trading and for the past few years I've graduated to using only my precision touch pad. For me, my precision touchpad is faster and more accurate than using a mouse.
Of course, YMMV.
