I think the better way to describe a touchpad is with a touchpad, it's your finger that is in contact with touchpad surface while with a mouse, your hand and fingers are actually on the mouse itself while with the mouse, your finger is basically the bottom of the mouse and the surface you are using is what is the touchpad. I think in a way, it's similar to how some people can type on things like Smart phones and tablets compared to a real keyboard, I can't do the later. It probably also has to do with how long you have been actually using a mouse as in my case, it was 1986 when I was 12 years old. Each type of device, mouse, touchpad, pen-grip mouse, trackpoint (eraserhead) all have their good and bad points as even though I mentioned investments, I do not use the mouse to actually do trading. It's for money movement and also paying credit card bills which I do 5-10 minutes before the cut-off time so any delay and it will miss the cut-off time and I will be charged a late fee which can be expensive. I do this over 120 times per month and this doesn't include the 6,000+ emails I have to read daily as I also own and run a ISP and do everything from support to sales to engineering. So have to first find the time to learn something new. 20+ years trading meant it was after the world wide web existed in GUI form which was 1994. It's similar to people who can't really use a computer if there was no GUI as not everyone knows how to use DOS or Unix for example. Even for mouses, I am not a fan of Logitech as I usually buy Microsoft mouses because there are only two standards, Microsoft and Mouse Systems and the other thing is Logitech mouses is more slippery on the surface compared to Microsoft. I also prefer the split curved keyboards like the Microsoft Natural Keyboards.
