How To Know If Windows Update Is Properly Installed?

I installed the August .NET Update kb5042099 on our Dell 5400 AIO. (23H2 22631.4037). The update along with the Cumulative Update kb5041585 installed without problems. Windows Update shows both updates successfully installed. When I checked Reliability Monitor in Control Panel it showed that the .NET update failed to install with error code 0x80010108. I uninstalled the .Net Update and reinstalled it and Reliabilty Monitor now showed it to be successfully installed. The same thing happened with .Net last month.
As Windows Update showed the original update was properly installed is it likely to be an issue with RM reporting? I noticed in Shawns' posting that .net updates don't have a version number to check. What would be the best way to check what's being downloaded for .NET updates and if they have been installed? Thanks for your help.

The error message number nothing to do with update not installing.

Hi FreeBooter and thanks for your reply. Does that suggest that the .NET update successfully installed(as Windows Update History says) and that I should ignore what Reliability Monitor reports? Thanks.

If you are not getting a .NET Framework problem or error, you can ignore the error message.

Thanks for replying. I normally wouldn't have bothered with it but I got the same message with.NET last month. I assume it's just an error on RM's part. No other error messages and WU history shows successfully installed, so I'll go with that. Thanks again

I would also scan and repair your Windows 11 with SFC /Scannow command.

To find successful/failed update events (in windowsupdate.log) that are related to .NET, you can use this Powershell command:

Thanks for the replies. I'm wary about trying to solve a problem which might not exist. After next month's. NET update I'll run the PowerShell cmd and check. I uninstalled the last .NET update and reinstalled it ( took less than a minute) so it's not a big problem - no error messages. Could be Reliability Monitor being a bit sensitive. Thanks.

Sorry HDMI, what is the character at the end of the PowerShell command? Is it f1 (numeric). I'm not familiar with that key. Thanks.

It's fl (i.e., the alias for the Format-List Cmdlet).

If this same error code 0x80010108 keeps showing up when it tries to update the .NET Framework and you aren't experiencing any other problems with Windows Update besides this, then maybe you should try the .NET Framework Repair Tool. See if it helps.

Hi hdmi and thanks for your help. I ran the PowerShell cmd and it stated that the last 3 .NET updates were successfully installed (just like WU) so I'm assuming that there is no install error and it's just a reporting error. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.
