Solved How to permanently enable Numlock

Hey.
Here you can find a way that i use at my system , to permanently enable Numlock.
We can put the file/s at the path we want.

1) Firstly, we need one of these 2 files. One its at ps.1 and the other is the .ps1 file compiled to .exe.
2) Next we need to run one of these at a) system Logon (includes Restart) and b) system sleep and hibernation.
To do that we need to create 2 tasks at task scheduler. One for a) one for b)
3) Creating the task for Logon :

General :

1711214630691.png

Trigger:
We set the trigger at "when logging in any user"

1711214766136.png

Action:

1711214899787.png

Conditions:

1711215214987.png

Settings:

1711215280980.png

Thats it for Logon and Restart.👈
For Sleep and Hibernation , here is the way.

Notes:
a)
1) To test if it works while you use the system :
-open notepad
-enable numlock by pressing its key and ensure that numlock is Enabled
-right click and choose Run at task at Task Scheduler
-go back to notepad and check that you can type numbers

2) To test if it works at Restart , Sleep , Hibernation :
-open notepad
-enable numlock by pressing its key and ensure that numlock is Enabled
-Restart or Sleep or Hibernate the system
-ensure that you can type numbers

b)
-.Ps1 file will produce a flash window when running
-.Exe file will be completely hidden , no windows of flashes. Thats better.

c) With the same procedure we could have always enabled the NumLock
The only changes are the file/s.

I had tested at my system and it works 100% OK.

Cheers.

This script doesn't permanently disable NumLock. It just enters a NUMLOCK "keypress" when NumLock is detected, to reverse it.

The traditional answer for disabling NumLock key is using scancode maps.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,45,00,00,00,00,00

Note: There's a real difference in breaking NumLock's functionality, vs. temporarily flipping the current NumLock state. Because the user can still press NumLock.

Thanks, Bug for offering. It’s OK though. Thanks for the tutorial 🙏
I don’t like caps lock but I found a small script that starts with Windows. I couldn’t find one for the number lock but don’t really need one. My Corsair Keyboard keys are so sensitise I kept turning on the caps lock so I disabled it.

Here's a similar solution which creates a scheduled task which runs at logon, and after waking from sleep/hibernation. By using a VBS script, we don't need the extra step of converting PS to an *.exe to hide the window.

1. Extract the two files from this ZIP.
2. Copy ClearNumLock.vbs to your favorite script folder location.
3. Open ClearNumLock_Task.xml in Notepad, and replace the script's folder at the bottom.
3. As Administrator run:
Code:
schtasks /create /tn "Clear NumLock Task" /xml ClearNumLock_Task.xml

Stop the scheduled task, by removing it:
Code:
schtasks /delete /tn Clear NumLock Task" /f

EDIT: 1) I want always NumLock enabled by default. I never use the arrows of keypad. If so , still i can do it by press the numlock key.
2) I use Restart and hibernation. I already set the at registry to have NumLock disabled by default.
It not works. After Restart and Hibernation many times become enabled.
So its the only solution this task.

Is there some major disadvantage to leaving it enabled??? 🤷‍♂️

I have 17 QTTabBar functions that depend on NumLock, not to mention Alt Codes and such.

Hang on though. If the number lock is enabled, the arrows don’t operate, the numbers do. Your comment is adverse to the request.
So you just want to kill that key altogether and hope that the settings remember that you want the number lock enabled at log-on?
