Solved How to play a mp3 file without hearing the sound

I'm trying to fix my 1,000 plus music file names and artists and to do this I need to play the files through the computer speakers so the Google Chrome Extension can hear it and then I can rename the files and edit the metadata once I get the list of songs and then info. But I don't want to have to listen to the songs I just want to fix the files and then add them to my cellphone once there all fixed.

So is there a way for the computer to hear it without me needing to hear it?

Wouldn't the obvious solution be to turn the volume down? What am I missing..... ?

And turning the volume down wouldn't stop the Google Chrome extension "hearing" the files, assuming all is one the same PC.

You are right just turning the volume down to zero the extension will still pick up the sound. I didn't think it would since the mic wont be able to hear the sound from the speakers. But you are correct this worked out fine. It was kind of a stupid question to ask I guess.

That's probably the wrong way to solve your problem.

Use a native Windows app like MusicTag, AudioRanger or MusicBrainz Picard to scan through your music files, and auto-correct the metadata.
