How to speed up?

It's not irrelevant! What you have now gives a clue what you like. It might indicate if you are a gamer or not. Or whether you use a desktop of a laptop. Bye.

@kelper I am not talking about speeding up gaming, I am talking about speeding up backups and speeding up malware scans <sigh>

How do you intend to backup? Wifi, ethernet, USB? You really do need to give more info, this is why I asked for more info. But you know better.

AND, I will ask again. What will the new components be. That's not too hard to understand. Never mind your current
one. We simply want to know which one(s) you are thinking of. I told you before, I have a Core i7 and a Core i9 coupled with
the one of fastest nvme on the market. The scans and backups still take the time that they will take considering what has to be backed up
and /or cloned / imaged and scanned. You did get other suggestions on which A/V would be fastest. Geez.
We all cannot tell you which components would be fastest for you until you decide to help us with some info on what you
consider to be fast or what you will be doing with the new build.

Full backups and full malware scans can take a long time! Not talking about reducing the backup load in any way, nor reducing the malware scan in any way. Just assume the same backup load and the same malware scan, what are the most important computer performance specs that go into the durations of these processes? Thanks!

Rather stating the obvious but:

fastest cpu and nvme drives you can afford, and keep storage as lean and mean as you can (do not accumulate junk).

Of course, the first two are down to your budget, but anybody can manage storage if they put their mind to it.

Macrium is set to keep 6 full backups. It deletes the oldest and replaces it with the newest. I try to keep my system lean and clean. I avoid installing large programs on to the C drive whenever possible. I run the built-in MS cleanmgr, storage sense, wise disk cleaner and ccleaner before each backup.
In saying that, it looks like some members here have managed to keep the size of their C drive much smaller than mine.

@Flashorn I saw you previous posts, including the one where you stated that malware scans on your i7 and i9 takes about the same amount of time. A bit surprising that more threads apparently do not speed up the malware scan.

Frankly, I asked what specs will speed up and you basically return the question what do you want to do to speed up, LOL

@Flashorn I understand you very well, you want to provide an answer (thanks!) in terms of components and component specs because you build your own computers.

However, I don't build my own computers, I buy my computers based on performance specs. Hence, I am interested in which computer performance specs will speed up backups and malware scans.

I think you're question is a bit like. what is the best car for efficient windows, Best radio and best rear bumper. I dont think there is a definitive 3 answers to you're question. Its really open to interpretation, My pc for example is old, dated and lagging behind, Would my specs be better than what you have? Everythings speedy over here none the less.

Well, that wasn't too hard right? All we wanted to know was if you wanted to build or buy something off the shelf
Was it a notebook or a PC . Now we know well, a little.
So, as was previously mentioned. a good CPU , a good nvme , and about 32 Gigs of RAM. All the components I mentioned in
the build above will fit your bill. I will however show a few pre built PCs that you might find to your liking.
I bought a MSI Aegis RS for my Son-in-Law (he was in dire need of a new one) two years ago. It is very fast and can
do scans and backups in a giffy. I just renewed the NVMe with a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus which In my opinion
really helped with game loading times. He has about the same amount of used Gigs on his NVMe as I do which is
roughly 500Gigs used.

In my opinion you won't need more than a Core i7. Core i9s are pretty fast but, very hot as well so, good cooling will be
a necessity.

A fast NVMe Gen 4 but, Gen 5 are available at the moment but, you will need a motherboard that supports this protocol.

A fair amount of RAM that can be expanded if needed. I would start with 32 Gigs. Also, try and get the lowest clock available
that the motherboard supports.

If you are willing, there is a few PCs from Corsair that you build yourself. I know, you said that you don't build them but,
these are very well documented as you go along with specific instructions.

I am like you, everythings speedy over here too, except for backups and malware scans that can take a couple of hours.

I don't think that elevating general performance specs would help much. It would be nice if specific performance specs can be elevated so that backups and malware scans take only a couple of seconds

So, I was still thinking about this last post.
I have a program on my Windows 10 notebook that I use for DVD/BD/ISO burning. It's ConvertXtoDVD.
When you said "Specific Performance Specs" I thought , I have a program that I can configure to use as many
or as little Cores as I want. I don't know if it can be done with other programs as I haven't seen any configurations
that I can add to any of the A/V that I have used in the past or present for that matter. Maybe you could
investigate this further to see if it's possible with the software you use.
