How To Tell If A Backup Is Successful

Hi,
Yeah all my stuff is not on the os disk
It would take a year to upload all of them lol
Then another year to recover them so yeah cloud is not a good place for backup
Then to top it off I'd wonder how many files were currupt from bouncing back and forth online lol

Only local access is stream lined for quick backup and recovery.

It does take a long time for the initial backup! (With idrive anyway) my 1TB took four and a half days. Once that's done though it's just a few minutes each day.

I'll remember about obtaining a hard drive but I'll wait to see if anything happens. Now I performed some search's on why my computer tells me
that my external drive will not back up image files. It's because my external drive was formated to ex-fat and needs to be formated to NTFS. So I made the change. Then I downloaded Aomie Backupper and was able to perform a full backup.
I also did look into Macrium Reflects website and they no longer provide support for their free version, so I went with Aomie Backupper.
Bold decision to use Chinese backup software like Aoemi.

I'm not sure if your external drive is working or not but if using the Windows 7 imaging program, it calls the image "Windowsimagebackup" and if you then do another one, it overwrites the previous one as it has the same name - unless you rename the first one. Eg WindowsimagebackupJan".

If it's saying it won't do an image then it could be faulty (or not enough space?).

For an external cloud back up - and I've been going on about this a bit - but I've just started using idrive and happy with it. It's not free, but it makes a copy of all your files, and updates daily (or to whatever schedule you set) so you never lose anything. And can be downloaded onto a new computer if needed. I don't even notice it's there.

It's good to have an image as well on an external drive.
The problem with Cloud stuff is you have to have an internet connection to be able to access it.
Some might not want that risk.

I'd always have some local mechanism for having the ability to do a bare metal restore. That way you could have a minimal Windows system with just a browser and standard Ms items installed so you could then access the internet and retrieve your data from cloud storage.

With even large HDD's (old spinners) being really cheap these days - even a 14TB one costs less than around €200 (excluding tax) and can be connected to any laptop via a powered USB->SATA adapter you can always have your data backed up to a local device - especially stuff that doesn't change much such video, music, etc.

Stuff that I have on the cloud are things like Office / work related stuff which I might need to access from everywhere without having to carry a load of portable external devices around - although the 2TB nvme SSD cards inside a small USB-C / USB3 adapter are convenient too.

@Steve C

People seem far too paranoid over Chinese software -- I'd be far more worried about stuff comming from fairly corrupt and bribery ridden countries such as Russian supporting India -- on the streets of Bangalore one can buy packs of Credit card pin numbers etc for around $15 (US) for 200 or more. Perhaps a lot of UK's failing public sector I.T should concentrate on home grown stuff rather than those off shored I.T Indian suppliers ---

If you've ever stood for hours at London's Heathrow airport (I know silly me for using it - but limited choice when I had to travel) because the e-gate system has failed or you can't use a VISA /Mastercard to pay your hotel bill because the bank's I.T system has collapsed- you'll know what I mean. !! Amex though to the rescue !!!!!.

I've used loads of Chinese supplied software and especially hardware without any issues at all -- APK office which is about as reasonably compatable with Ms Office and Free works perfectly for me on systems where I don't have Ms Office installed. A colleague of mine is 100% happy with a Chinese electric car he's bought (BYD Dolphin - OK for what he needs and there's no problem with home / city charging either -- really cheap geothermal energy here!!)) -- and it's so much cheaper than any European or US models. 450 Km range for a small car is fine for the trips he makes).

Cheers
jimbo

Ok, my bad. Now the only thing I need to do is to contact the McAfee tech and ask them why their VPN does not allow me to
communicate with a certain website. Its the only website thats effected. I think there is a thread about this subject on this forum.
I'll do a search before I contact McAfee.
