Solved Hyper V VM does not sync files from OneDrive

Pls bear with me, VM noob here.
I am trying to duplicate the Laptop of my 86 year old father in law in a VM. I have set up his two laptops so that they keep their files on OneDrive and backs everything up to OneDrive. So it seems to me that it should be easy to set up a VM under Hyper V that keeps sync with what he is seeing on his two laptops.
So far I have been able to set up the VM by installing Windows 11 Pro and the relevant apps. Now I am stuck at getting the VM to retrieve the data files from OneDrive. This is what the VM looks like (identical to the laptops except that I cannot open anything because it is not downloading from OneDrive).



The OneDrive icon at the bottom right claims that OneDrive is up to date. This is what the OneDrive Windows looks like



When I try to open a file in the VM, I get a message "the cloud operation is invalid".

After activating Windows in the VM, OneDrive synced all files.
