Pretty spartan setup there. I tried a preliminary search for what I needed and waded through way to much stuff. I was hoping for a better user experience although if I had a very pointed question I am sure eventually they would answer it.

OK,

How do I use either an appointment or a task to automatically generate either an email or SMS message when the appointed time and date are met on the calendar.

I.E. I create an appointment on Outlook for 10am on Monday the 14th. When 10am arrives on the 14th, I want outlook to generate a text or email that says "it is time to call home" and send it to a preset list of recipients.

This is a simple version of what I would like to do. At least three iterations of Outlook ago, I was able to write a script using VBasic to make this happen, but that no longer works. I also need to do it on a company network where I am not an admin, although if it is clean enough and straight forward I would probably get them to allow it.

It looks like the service you want is only available in the web app, and may require additional services... Calendar notifications in Outlook Web App

I also tried to see if I could do it from the desktop app, but the only thing I could do was place an attendee notice in another user's calendar. That's done by the invite feature. It also requires you know the email user's address.

My previous solution had an appointment generate an email sent to an SMS gateway. Crude but it worked. Oh, and I have the email and the gateway addresses.

That's not the email address I was speaking of - what I meant is that to invite an attendee to a meeting/appointment you'll need their email address.

Anyway, I use an app called CompanionLink. You load it on your PC and, and with the help of DejaOffice on the android device, it sync's your Outlook's contacts, calendars between PC (Outlook desktop app) and android (also iPhone) device.

As an Android user this gives me access to my calendar plus, I get my appointment notifications via the phone's calendar app. That said, it is a paid app, and also requires DejaOffice (free) for android devices.
