But for good reason. I have family videos, movies, music, pictures and all sorts of media and data. Plus, because of a catastrophic system failure I need hard drive space to re-sort and re-organize all my recovered data. I can always use the drives in other builds I've made for my family if I no longer need them. It's always handy to have extra hard drives on hand. Anyway, I finally figured out a way to illustrate how I got these drives in order in no less than two pictures and I'll share them here. I'm very OCD about the order of my hard drives. I have a lot to keep track of. Perhaps some of you are the same. This is why I'm sharing.

    Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
It it makes you feel better, at work I have SQL server clusters with 200+ Fiber attached LUN's being presented. We don't use drive letters as there aren't enough of them, we mount them to empty NTFS volumes.

I think I'm okay now. I certainly have my work cut out for me this winter. I have one more 10 TB helium filled drive coming in. Hoping to eventually put that drive in cold storage once I save all the family pics and videos to it. I'm not an IT. I'm just a bit of an enthusiast and a PC builder, a Johnny-come-lately from another time. I wouldn't mind upgrading my Windows 7 in RAID 0 at some point to bigger SSDs but it can wait for now. I still have to leave room for Linux.

:-) Thanks guys. I really do feel better now. The anxiety is dissipating. I know I'm among friends and if I run into any problems I know who to ask for help. *whew* There's no hard drive anonymous where I live. I appreciate the support.

My wife has a yarn fetish. I'm constantly being attacked by the furry things and I'm wondering if that's why the dust that consistently gathers in my PC tends to take on a furry consistency over time. :(

Gosh! Yous guys make me feel like a mere child at this data save game. And I've been at it over 40 years now.

I only have four drives in this computer, that is a home built and once refurbished Mid Tower. (Pac Man Case) The main drive, the one I'm on now, is a 500GB Crucial SSD, then there's two much smaller and older, and slower, spinners, one with Windows 8.1/Pro/32 and one with Windows 7/Ultimate/32, and finally a 1TB Toshiba spinner that I've designated as my "Backup Drive".

So, I've got my bases covered, without going totally crazy.
I have one game I like to play, that will only play on Win-7/x86, thus the Win-7 drive. The Win-8.1 drive is just for nostalgia. I really liked that OS!

And, if my Win-11 SSD ever fails, I can (F-12) boot up to Win-8.1 and "Keep on Truckin'" Program wise, it's a near copy of my Win-11 drive.

If I had as many drives as some of Y'alls, I'd go nuts!

You must have a crazy setup of USB ports! I thought I had too much with only 4 external drives, and cut down to 3! How do you know what data is where? I use a free program called Cathy to keep track of what is on all my retired drives.

This is why I endeavour to keep all my drives in alphabetical order. I'm curious about Cathy though. I might have some use for her.

I don't have to concern myself with turning away bits and bytes when Windows Recovery overwrites all my backups and hangs me out to dry. ;-)

I'm not opposed to external hard drives but most of what you see in those pictures isn't running off USB ports. In fact, drive letters X and Y were reserved for my toaster. I'm getting to that stage where I'm going to have to start mounting USB drives. I'm hoping when I'm done sorting I won't be needing half of these drives on this PC.
