ICC Profile now fails to be applied even from Display settings window when switching to HDR

Hi, everyone!

I guess it's a known bug when Win+Alt+B shortcut doesn't apply the correct ICC profile for HDR display when being toggled. I somehow learned to live with that by simply activating HDR inside Display settings window. However, with the latest updates situation got even worse. Now to apply the correct ICC profile I need to switch to HDR inside Display settings, then close Display settings and then open them again.. So basically i need to open Display settings window twice to enable the correct ICC profile.

Anyone faced this issue yet? Any clues how to fix this?

This won't help you much:

The HDR profile is invoked when I use the Win-Alt-B toggle. Or when I switch to HDR mode in Display settings.

All that tells you is that if it's a bug, it isn't one that affects all users.

The nVidia drivers I'm using are Studio 577.00. They're also the latest Studio drivers for the RTX 3070.

On Reddit there are tons of users complaining. It's just that very few actually use a specific HDR profile. Most users don't assign a separate profile for HDR.

Just something to consider if not already thought of...

In addition to requiring monitor support, the content must also be supported. And some monitors require pre configuring before the profile works. On my Eizo monitor I need to perform a few tasks first to create an HDR profile for use. So, its not just Windows, but the monitor itself.

Suggest you go over the owner's manual of you monitor to insure you aren't missing something. Not saying this is the issue, but just something to consider if not done already.

Good luck.

I have no idea how common the issue is. I can only provide a sample of one. (I haven't checked desktop #2.)

I have separate SDR and HDR profiles defined. (The HDR one is the primitive profile made using the Windows app.)

It was working, it just broke with latest patches i guess. Or latest nvidia drivers idk.... it was at least working when switching in Display settings. Never worked with shortcut. Now it's working from the second time i enter Display settings. Definitely not a hardware issue.

I have no idea how common the issue is. I can only provide a sample of one. (I haven't checked desktop #2.)

I have separate SDR and HDR profiles defined. (The HDR one is the primitive profile made using the Windows app.)

Just a few examples. I can provide more links if needed.

If you think that I was trying to imply that the issue doesn't exist, or that it only exists for you, I gave a false impression.

I don't get the issue, but that doesn't help you at all. I haven't had to troubleshoot an issue that I have been lucky enough to avoid.

Later: I may have missed something. If the HDR profile is not applied using Win-Alt-B, but is applied instantly when Display Settings is opened, I could have missed that. The effects of the HDR profile are subtle.

No, the issue i started this thread is that it's now not even "applied instantly when Display Settings is opened,". It was like that before, but broke a few weeks ago for me. Now i have to open settings twice.'

There are plenty of topics describing the issue as:

"ICC profile not applied on keyboard shortcut, but applied when toggling the feature inside Display setting window".

I wouldn't start another thread on this. My issue is that it's evolved and now I need to open settings window twice... for some reason.. i don't get the logic tho. Why twice.. why not 3-4 times.. maybe we'll get there soon

Yeah i was just wondering maybe someone faced the same issue or knows what might trigger it. Since i use this display and GPU for years now and it wasn't like that

This bug is pretty random btw. Sometimes i manage to enable HDR in Display settings window and it works from the start. But most of the time i have to reopen this window.....

As for third party software i tried even some github program that sits in the tray and enables you to switch profile from there... not working too
