Why would Rufus do that, when it's just part of booting from any USB drive?
I no longer have any idea what you're talking about. You quoted antspants, who was talking about Rufus to bypass MS account requirements. You went off in some direction about USB booting that made no sense, and now it's getting worse. It's not a matter for Rufus to do that. Unless you know of a way Rufus can execute without having to reboot your machine.

You may know what you said but are you sure that you understand what you said. To boot from a device it has to be set to be the default boot device. That is unless #1. one uses the proper F-key to get to the menu where they can manually choose the boot device. #2. there are no other boot devices.Well I know what I said in Posts #16 and #20, but that's ok. I now know it can't (or won't) be answered here.![]()

I left a load off the story...
lets try a restore point to see if it'll drop back to my Local Windows account, then I'll fight Office back to life coz of course that can't be there '...what could go wrong'
queue 3 hours of black screen - doing nothing, still doing nothing... eventually it rebooted blue screen 100% dead at a weird RE - leaving me with ZERO interaction with the keyboard or mouse
forced reboot, same again
