Increasing mouse speed/sensitivity beyond Windows 11's maximum

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have experience increasing the mouse/pointer speed/sensitivity beyond the maximum allowed by Windows 11?

I just got my first Windows 11 computer, upgrading from Windows 7. I'm physically disabled, and the maximum mouse/pointer speed/sensitivity in Windows 11 isn't quite fast/sensitive enough for me. I'm using the settings shown below.

I'm using an extremely old mouse: a Microsoft PS/2 Intellimouse, a model that was ubiquitous in the late 1990s (photo shown below for nostalgia purposes).

• Unfortunately, using a different physical mouse (e.g., a gaming mouse) isn't an option for me.
• As my hand muscles have weakened over the past 25 years, I'm no longer able to use a mouse other than the Microsoft Intellimouse because my muscles have gotten "locked into" that mouse. (I'm lucky that I found a manufacturer, Lenovo, that still gives the option of a built-in PS/2 port.)

So, does anyone know if the mouse/pointer speed/sensitivity can be increased beyond Windows 11's maximum -- either by registry edits or third-party software?

It's a shame that you are locked into that mouse. I think a PS/2 mouse is going to be slower than a USB mouse, unfortunately, as the polling rate isn't as fast for PS/2.

Is the PS/2 mouse a ball mouse, being as it is so old? That will definitely affect your speed and precision, too.

You don't necessarily have to use a gaming mouse to get fast pointer speeds (dots per inch, or DPI). I use a Logitech G502 (wired USB) mouse and I can get insane pointer speed out of it if I want to as it seems to bypass the Windows pointer speed setting. I actually have to set my speed down to 3200 Mickeys*, otherwise it is way too fast. The G502 is very similar in shape to the Intellimouse. I understand your predicament, but I wonder if the G502 might work for you, given its traditional shape.

I hope you can find a solution for this, because I don't think that Windows can set the mouse speed any higher than what you have set it without using a more sophisticated mouse.

*Fun fact: Mouse speed is measured in pixels/inch or DPI. The unit of measurement is called a "Mickey." I learned that years ago and it always makes me laugh, for obvious reasons.

Agree with catnip. If you know catnip, you know mice - you are not going to get any more speed out of that.

There are plenty of mice out there. I would go to a Microcenter (if there is one nearby) or a Bestbuy and have them help you pick one out that meets your needs and can do the dpi you desire. Even try ones they have on display computer.

I know how it feels. I once bought a mouse that looked perfect for me, the right size and all, but I got the worst hand cramps.

You need a better mouse.
But you don't have to buy a $200, 27 button gaming mouse.


1000/1600/2000 DPI selectable...



I use a very basic 1000 DPI, $9 Logitech mouse (from Walmart), on a 30 inch screen.
I move the mouse 2 inches and the cursor is all the way across the screen.
And that's at default Windows mouse settings.
Well the price seems to have gone up...

The mouse I linked up above, can do 2000 DPI, which means the cursor will move 30 inches, by moving the mouse... one inch.



Back in the day, I had a motor driven Nikon F2, with all the lenses, and a full blown darkroom.
