Should I have this on enabled for disabled? It was disabled. I have now enabled it. Is there any advantage /disadvantage having it on or off? My compuuter was working OK without it enabled. I am just thinking for future reference if I need to reinstall Windows 11 or future iterations of Windows. It's not a new motherboard and it doesn't have the TPM 2.0 module.

For example, Intel’s Platform Trust Technology (PTT) found in some Intel chipsets provides the same TPM security protocols without the need for an additional physical chip. To your operating system and applications, PTT looks and acts exactly like TPM. The difference is, computers with Intel PTT or AMD’s built-in firmware version don’t require a dedicated crypto-processor or memory.

While Windows 11 can work without any form of TPM, you cannot do a clean install of Windows 11 on a machine without TPM 2.0. (Well, you can, but you have to use various workarounds to install on an unsupported device.) Without TPM 2.0 the installer will say your device is not supported and will not install Windows 11.

Intel Platform Trust Technology (Intel PTT) is a firmware implementation of TPM 2.0 without the need for a discrete TPM module. It satisfies the Windows 11 system requirements for a supported device.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

I just checked my bios and it says I have TPM20 device found (not 2.0) and as you state it is firmware based , I always thought I had TMP 1.2 but I could have been wrong

Yes it's there in Device Manager. Thanks for that info. Now why can't I upgrade my 21H2 to 22H2? Would this be what was holding me back?

I would like both my computers on the latest Windows Version. Can I do this on my Desktop PC ?

Is there some tutorial or workaround I can follow?

Not without altering my appraiserres. dll file in the the Windows 11 ISO which seems to be working now as it us installing and now "Working On Updates" @ 14% as other people on this forum and I have confirmed with compatibility checker my CPU isn't supported by Windows 11.
