Hi there
Installing now -- It's valid till Sept 2024 so a decent tome to play with it and compare with the previous LTSC version. I like to convert these to workstations -- they perform a lot better than the bog standard desktop stuff --needs a little bit of fiddling to get rid of all the nag bits when running a server but it'sworth it for the performance and lack of bloat.

Cheers

I ran a Win 2k Server as a Workstation for my primary OS for a while. There were some good and bad from doing that, from what I can remember.

At one time, there was a website with instruction on how to get some of the Desktop OS functions working under the Server OS. Do they have something like that for the newer Server OSes?

I'll post what I did for server 2022 and the latest one later.

It's not difficult and you can also run them as VM's too.

I did the same with Windows Server 2012 and Server 2012R2 with Server 2025, I can run alongside Windows 11 Pro for Workstations - not news as I did similar with the Server 2012 iterations.

What is great with these is that especially if you run them from vhdx files they run easily and nicely from external devices. I use a 2 TB external Nvme (ssd type) device with a whole slew of Windows installs on it. Very fast too with decent NVME device. Portable too so switchable to different machines -- and no nag because of different hardware.

The 2022 server IMO is a bit better as you can extend the 180 day period 5 more times with slmgr rearm so you can use it decently as a permanent OS. However expiry in sept 2024 for the 2025 version is fine --better than a previous insider version that only allowed 30 days.
