Giving the travesty of the January update, I avoided it. Is this one safer to install?

Also, if you create disk images on a regular basis (including prior to installing updates), you can stop worrying and just install.

Zillions updated with no issue. Problem with internet a few vocal keyboard warriors whinge for sake of it and you get a ridiculously false picture.

As you avoided it, how do you know it was a travesty?

People can tell you till the end of time an update is safe but they cannot ever gurantee it is safe for YOU.

The BEST solution is to make an image backup before downloading and installing ANY update.

Then YOU can try it safe in the knowledge you can revert if you get any issues. The old adage "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" 100% applies.

What travesty?

While this is only one person's opinion, however, I installed three updates in January and two so far this month. Security updates happen once, twice, and sometimes three times a day. I have been using Windows 11 since December 2021 and have installed every update that has come to my pc. While I may not like some of the stuff that MS does, I install everything MS provides. And, in that time I have never had a operational issue and all my applications work fine. Stop being afraid of your computer.
