BTW, we now have a penny shortage. Stores are asking for exact change or rounding up to the nearest nickel. Saw a sign at the Pharm asking for exact change or to use credit.

It does make sense considering it costs 3.69 cents cents to make a penny. Other countries had abandoned the penny years ago.

To be honest, most small coins could just disappear, and prices could be rounded to the nearest 5 or 10. I’ve been in this country for four months and haven’t even handled a coin since Apple Pay is so much easier. I keep notes in my wallet for tips or in case electronic payments fail, but I’d only use them if absolutely necessary—and even then, I’d probably just say “keep the change” to avoid ending up with coins I’ll never use.

I cannot remember last time pubs in UK did not charge to nearest 5p.

And yet, we still see sales saying, only £x.99p to make an item seem cheaper.

I sometimes, when I am in a mischievous mood, deliberately annoy the sellers when they have not given me my 1p change.

I tell them that I want it to give to charity rather than their profits.

Once a shop told me they did not have any 1p coins so I told them to give me a 2p coin as I did not see why I should be out of pocket LOL.

They lose even more on the nickel, Even if they change the base to zinc it would be tight. I say dump the nickel too, round up of down to the closest dime for people paying in cash
