Solved Kaspersky - Incompatible Item

Long story SHORT, I tried Kaspersky Security Cloud - Free with reminders and when I turned on the pc every morning, there was a Kaspersky window on my screen. I also found that it slowed down my PC a bit too.

I now use Avira Free version in conjunction with Windows Defender, for 3rd party, to catch what Defender is overlooking. No need to PAY for 3rd party anti-virus, from my readings. To each there own.

I use Defender on my tablet, no probs. Am trying out Bitdefender now, if not satisfactory, there is always next May

But surely Defender is not supposed to overlook anything. Just to be safe, I have reinstalled Malwarebytes Premium which has been dormant for few years due to Kaspersky not liking it. Bitdefender up to now has not complained either

From reading, Defender does not screen everything having some week areas. Past years I have included Full version WebRoot. I also use Malwarebytes free every so often too.

You can turn off KAV promotions and if you turn off bloatware, it runs fairly good.


Accept Kaspersky Security Network and Decline Data Processing / Recommended uncheck All
Uninstall Kaspersky Secure Connection (trial VPN)
Settings - Interface - uncheck Receive informational messages + Show information about special offers
Settings - Additional - uncheck Use hardware virtualization + Show password strength + Warn about using the same password
Settings - General - uncheck Use Advanced Disinfection
Settings - Protection - Turn Off All, but File Anti-Virus / File Anti-Virus Advanced - set Security level Low
Settings - Network settings - check Do not scan encrypted connections (to avoid MITM)
Settings - Network settings - uncheck Inject script into web traffic + Monitor all ports + Decrypt + Scan secure traffic

one annoying thing about bitdefender, it keep telling me network is unsafe. Its not`. My network, so they claim, is so safe, they can use my router as a hotspot.

This was taken from Avira support site and substantiates what @Bastet posted above.

1. Delete residual Avira files

1. Boot your Windows System in Safe Mode.

2. Make sure that your folder options are set as follows.
Click: Start → Control Panel → Folder Options → View → Show Hidden Files and Folders → OK

3. Delete the following folders if they exist:
◦ C:\Program Files\Avira
◦ C:\ProgramData\Avira
◦ C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira

Note
If you cannot delete Avira folders, rename them first.
Then start your computer in safe mode again and delete them.
There is no action required if these folders do not exist.
4. Restore the default folder view settings.

I agree but Defender does not have a lot of what TOTAL software has.
