Win Update KB5007215 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Build 22000.318 - Nov. 9

  • Staff
UPDATE 11/22:

November 9, 2021 - KB5007215 (OS Build 22000.318)

NEW 11/9/2021
IMPORTANT
Because of minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming Western new year, there won’t be a preview release (known as a “C” release) for the month of December 2021. There will be a monthly security release (known as a “B” release) for December 2021. Normal monthly servicing for both B and C releases will resume in January 2022.

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types. For an overview of Windows 11 (original release), see its update history page.
Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Highlights

  • Updates security for your Windows operating system.

Improvements and fixes

This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
  • Addresses an issue in which certain apps might have unexpected results when rendering some user interface elements or when drawing within the app. You might encounter this issue with apps that use GDI+ and set a zero (0) width pen object on displays with high dots per inch (DPI) or resolution, or if the app is using scaling.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about the resolved security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the November 2021 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22000.280

  • This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

SymptomWorkaround
After installing this update, Windows print clients might encounter the following errors when connecting to a remote printer shared on a Windows print server:

0x000006e4 (RPC_S_CANNOT_SUPPORT)

0x0000007c (ERROR_INVALID_LEVEL)

0x00000709 (ERROR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME)

Note The printer connection issues described in this issue are specific to print servers and are not commonly observed in devices designed for home use. Printing environments affected by this issue are more commonly found in enterprises and organizations.
For workarounds and the latest status for this issue, please see Windows release health.

We are presently investigating and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
After installing this update, Microsoft Installer (MSI) might have issues repairing or updating apps. Apps that are known to be affected include some apps from Kaspersky. Affected apps might fail to open after an update or repair has been attempted. To mitigate this issue, you will need to uninstall the affected app, then install the latest version of the app.

We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

Release ChannelAvailableNext Step
Windows Update and Microsoft UpdateYesNone. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update.
Windows Update for BusinessYesNone. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update in accordance with configured policies.
Microsoft Update CatalogYesTo get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)YesThis update will automatically sync with WSUS if you configure Products and Classifications as follows:
Product: Windows 11
Classification: Security Updates

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Installing update now !! Disappointing that there won't be another until January or did i read that wrong ?
I'm reading this to mean they are not intending to lift their hands to do any work in December. And probably not in the first week of January either. Two holidays, both falling on Saturday, and they wipe out at least 5 weeks of effort. ;)

Have 2 versions --ISL and GB Eng -- GB ENG gives problem now - anything trying to download -- Couldn't download "Network error", ISL version OK !! so something is hosed up. (KB5007215 - via WU).

Switched the ISL version to GB ENG and saved as separate install.

Now both GB ENG and ISL versions working OK so ? - "The magic of Windows !! --"

Well I sure hope they fix the ICC color profile issue soon. It has been fixed in dev well before the official release came out. I must say that the fact that they haven't migrated the fix to release or even acknowledged as an open issues is a major disgrace. Nor have they fixed the dual monitor issues in production release, even though this has also been fixed in dev for a long time now.

Microsoft is sending out messages with updates (Win 11 and Edge Dev) that they're about to leave for an extended Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years holiday vacation.

So I guess whatever we're getting now in the way of NON-security updates will be it, until next year.

The economic and work slowdown due to Covid this year and last, really got employees into LAID BACK mode, didn't it.

Now both GB ENG and ISL versions working OK so ? - "The magic of Windows !! --"
I can confirm, here is English UK (sometimes also called English International) version of Windows 11, I haven't noticed any problem with downloading and installing this update. Maybe the developers noticed it early and quickly fixed, this may happen sometimes.

@Slavic
The problem wasn't the downloading of the release -- it was AFTER installing and then trying to download anything from websites e.g firefox, macrium free etc -- hardly "Illegal or dubious" programs either !!!!

This build if installed from new (clean install) gives me "download error - Network issue" messages any time I try and download anything from any website. Whether this is something to do with WD that's got its knickers in a huge twist over the ranomware protection stuff I just don't know as this error still appears even with WD turned off.

Same notification on any download. At least firefox gives diagnostic while Edge just sits there doing nothing on download.

I know it's not an Internet / ISP problem as I'm having no probs in an earlier release which I'm making this post from.

(UUP method used BTW for the clean install but I don't suspect the iso -- UUPDUMP works pretty reliably).

cheers
