Win Update KB5008215 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Build 22000.376 - Dec. 14

  • Staff
UPDATE 1/11:

December 14, 2021—KB5008215 (OS Build 22000.376)

11/9/2021
IMPORTANT
Because of minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming Western new year, there won’t be a preview release (known as a “C” release) for the month of December 2021. There will be a monthly security release (known as a “B” release) for December 2021. Normal monthly servicing for both B and C releases will resume in January 2022.

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types. For an overview of Windows 11 (original release), see its update history page.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Highlights

  • Updates security for your Windows operating system.

Improvements and fixes

This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
  • This update contains miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS functionality. No additional issues were documented for this release.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about the resolved security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the December 2021 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22000.345

  • This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues in this update.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

Release ChannelAvailableNext Step
Windows Update and Microsoft UpdateYesNone. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update.
Windows Update for BusinessYesNone. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update in accordance with configured policies.
Microsoft Update CatalogYesTo get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)YesThis update will automatically sync with WSUS if you configure Products and Classifications as follows:
Product: Windows 11
Classification: Security Updates

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

@Ghot

Are you able to get Firefox or Chrome to go to a site from the Search Bar?

Probably... if I hadn't disabled that a long time ago.
Last thing I want is one of my computer searches going online.

I used Winaero Tweaker to disable Cortana, and the web search...
Here's the method to disable web search manually...

I've had Cortana and web search disabled since I installed Windows 10.
And I did an In-Place Upgrade to get from Win 10 to Win 11.
So, it's disabled on Windows 11 as well.

Probably the easiest way to test would be to make a backup, then just remove EDGE.
Then you'll be able to see if it affects any of that.
That would be a lot easier than me "un-doing" my... "pile o' tweaks".

I do know that Microsoft Store still works.

Updated to .376 on RP channel without any noticeable problem. Apparently it's a kind of security update, not a functionality/feature update. At the same time, updated MS Store (in MS Store), Terminal and auto-updated a bunch of runtime libraries. All OK.

I still don't know what I did, Edwin, but so far, Edge seems to be permanently broken. The links are there, but Edge doesn't open. :)
Odd. Edge is working fine here. Did you try restarting again?

Oh, I'm quite happy that Edge seems permanently broken. That way, I get to have the best of both worlds. I can either open Firefox from the Taskbar, or, if it's "busy", I can just start typing my URL into the Search Bar. One click is sufficient for both.

C'mon, surely someone must have had a complement for your 'puter. Dang autocorrect, LOL.
I wonder if the computer in question is "non compliment", has a "complement", or is perhaps non-compliant. If it does have a complement, of what does that consist?

My VHD install died for no apparent reason so can't install this. 😞

Will stick to Windows 10 and Linux only on my Intel machine. Not worth the hassle to reinstall everything again.

No I don't have a backup, because I could not care less about experimental stuff on unsupported hardware and waste 100s of GB on something that breaks this easily. 😂

Edwin, you are apparently anti-Edge. I'm curious as to why. I've been using Edge on all my computers and phones for the past year and have been quite pleased.

Edwin, you are apparently anti-Edge. I'm curious as to why.
Oh geez, you're going to have to give me a couple hours to write my thesis on that...

Right from the get-go, I didn't like not being able to sign into Edge with a Google Account..., then things just went downhill from there...

although, I just found out you can now voice search on Google with Edge! Up until lately, they excluded that api...

I actually have Edge on my W11 laptop and my W10 desktop, (thanks to yesterday's update!)..., they're okay. I just don't use them, except to be nosey!

I can sign-in fine with a Google Account in Edge.

The top one is for microsoft while the one if you sign in on google.com or any google services would sign-in on all google services as it seems just like chrome, one google account is default for everything while you can have a different google account signed in for each google service running like I have 8 different gmail tabs and 8 different google voice tabs and only 1 of each one goes to the same account as what's on google.com.
