Win Update KB5009566 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Build 22000.434 - Jan. 11

  • Staff
UPDATE 1/17:

KB5009566 is also released to Windows Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview channels.

January 11, 2022 - KB5009566 (OS Build 22000.434)

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types. For an overview of Windows 11 (original release), see its update history page.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Highlights

  • Updates a known issue that affects Japanese Input Method Editors (IME). Text you enter might appear out of order or the text cursor might move unexpectedly in apps that use the multibyte character set (MBCS).
  • Updates security for your Windows operating system.

Improvements and fixes

This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
  • Addresses a known issue that affects Japanese Input Method Editors (IME). When you use a Japanese IME to enter text, the text might appear out of order or the text cursor might move unexpectedly in apps that use the multibyte character set (MBCS). This issue affects the Microsoft Japanese IME and third-party Japanese IMEs.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about the resolved security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the January 2022 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22000.345

  • This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
All usersAfter installing Windows 11, some image editing programs might not render colors correctly on certain high dynamic range (HDR) displays. This is frequently observed with white colors, which could display in bright yellow or other colors.

This issue occurs when certain color-rendering Win32 APIs return unexpected information or errors under specific conditions. Not all color profile management programs are affected, and color profile options available in the Windows 11 Settings page, including Microsoft Color Control Panel, are expected to function correctly.
We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in late January.
IT adminsAfter installing this update, IP Security (IPSEC) connections that contain a Vendor ID might fail. VPN connections using Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) or IP security Internet Key Exchange (IPSEC IKE) might also be affected. To mitigate the issue for some VPNs, you can disable Vendor ID within the server-side settings.

Note Not all VPN servers have the option to disable Vendor ID from being used.

We are presently investigating and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

Release ChannelAvailableNext Step
Windows Update and Microsoft UpdateYesNone. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update.
Windows Update for BusinessYesNone. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update in accordance with configured policies.
Microsoft Update CatalogYesTo get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)YesThis update will automatically sync with WSUS if you configure Products and Classifications as follows:
Product: Windows 11
Classification: Security Updates

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Easiest update yet and I´m running this from a physical external vhdx file )not a HYPER-V VM.
Done by normal WU process.

If only most other Windows updates would go as easily and quickly.

That was painless and quick.
9 minutes from start of download to desktop with SBpassword and pin included on my beta machine.
A bit more than 4 hours for update here, with the computer being unresponsive. Possibly because of hard drive and no SSD.

Maybe, I have stopped using hard drives, and this particular pc is using an M2 Western Digital Black SN750 which is 3 times as fast as a SATA SSD even in my low end build.

An HDD would slow the update down that much?

After installing this update, IP Security (IPSEC) connections that contain a Vendor ID might fail.

A bit more than 4 hours for update here, with the computer being unresponsive. Possibly because of hard drive and no SSD.
Can you add bit more about your system info into forum profile Computer One area?

Did you do clean install into totally empty disk without old partitions when you first installed Windows 11?

If you have time then would be interesting to see results of running userbenchmark, shouldn't take more than 2min. Then other curious people would know little bit more about your system hardware speed, configuration and bios version, that for you is so slow.

Seriously...,
... can somebody get MS to put the Media Controls back on the OSD where they belong!?!?!?

000422 - Copy.png

... indispensable when you have media controls on the mouse!!!
... and, senseless to have to dig in the system tray for it!!!

I can no longer run my virtual machines after installing this update. Trying to start this XP machine now gives the attached error. Worked fine before this was installed. One other update was installed at the same time but I don't think this is the problem. Most things I find with a web search mention server OS but it happens on Win 11 Pro too.

Love to find a workaround for this. Uninstalling the update didn't fix it as some claim it will.

Thanks - Mike MCSEHypervisorError.jpg

My VMs still work with this update installed, even my XP one.

You could try reinstalling Hyper-V, turn it off in Windows Features then turn it back on again. This will preserve all your VMs and their settings, but you will have to re-make any virtual switches you may have set up. If all your VMs use the Default switch then that wouldn't be an issue.

BTW: if your main use for the 'XP Freecell' VM is to play the XP games, then you can just copy the files to a folder on your W11 host and run then from there. They all run fine in W11.

Turning off the windows feature, rebooting, turning back on, rebooting gave this error:

This was fixed by using "edit disk" in the hyper manager. THANK YOU!

And a better way to play my geezer games! Wonderful, just don't tell anyone I'm just a goof off these days ( - :

I have just switched on my second W11 machine, which is not in the insider programme, but has a higher spec, and it took 3 times as long to get the update up and running.

Yeah when I first started playing there were only 32767 games so I thought I would play them all. Now there are something like 10E7 of them but onward I trudge. At ~44,500 so far. Average about 87% wins, wish that were higher but it is just a diversion after all.

Back to the joys of WIN11 ( - :
