Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22000.581

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
IT adminsAfter installing the Windows updates released January 11, 2022 or later Windows versions on an affected version of Windows, recovery discs (CD or DVD) created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app in Control Panel might be unable to start.

Recovery discs that were created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app on devices which have installed Windows updates released before January 11, 2022 are not affected by this issue and should start as expected.

Note No third-party backup or recovery apps are currently known to be affected by this issue
We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

So far so good -- seems to be installing OK

we shall see !!

Language again though hosed up - why on earth this seems to be a regular problem on "standard" updates I don't know". Surely can't be that difficult. Use some type of "Data dictionary" with an MVO controller so the interface just has to reference the "DDIC" (data dictionary) . Elementary programming. So for example you create a basic "Screen" with place holders for fields with"text attributes" and when this is displayed the GUI just throws up the screen and fills in the "labels" with the values in the "Data dictionary" which can be in any language needed.

"Seeeeeemples" Please "" Microsoft Coders. !!! Get your act together, This really is "International Coding 101".

I'm not a coder but as an Engineer I knew about this stuff even 30 years ago -- we often dealt with staff from all different countries and while English was the major / common language a lot of things needed to be done in other languages too. So what's up with modern coders -- simple for them it really should be as they have Google translate to translate the text fields if they can't do it themselves. Just look at how MVO should work !! .

On std update for example :

I know Icelandic isn't a major language but surely if it's offered then please make it work -- certainly on the standard W11 stuff where it has regularly worked without problems before,

Hi there
did you "Add Norwegian" via install language to Base English version or is there a mainline Norwegian Windows version. Did you get the 225xxx build from Ms or via UUPDUMP in which case you probably installed English (either GB or USA / International Eng). If you addeed Norwegian I'm surprised the update didn't work properly -- it did for me on that build.

Screenshot_20220412_232115.png

When adding a language most things are translated but not 100% -- what is unacceptable is when bits appear in both languages e.g menus, texts, etc jumbled up with each other. !!! It's fine in the rs- preview Windows 11 but I'm surprised it's this messy in presumably what is going nearer and nearer to "Official RTM".

I'm sure with more and more remote working many people like to have Windows in more than one language .

Cheers

Thanks @magilla and @flashh4 - No I still haven't found the solution. I am back on the 'preview update' and everything is running fine. I have just done a malwarebytes scan on the laptop and it was clean. I'm looking for factors which both machines have in common, and my suspicion now is that my router filters (anti malware, warez, redirection and advertising) might be the problem. I will turn them off, and allow time for the system to 'forget'. I'm also wondering whether a clean install of windows 11 might be in order. Both of these machines were updated from windows 10.

Well I turned off the router filters, and also enabled Edge to run in the background (previously turned off), and also enabled fast start in Edge settings. Have now installed the update and *so far* everything is working as it should (on both machines). I will experiment over the next few days adding back the web filters one at a time to see which, if any of them was causing the problem. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Automatically installed on all my production level systems overnight. Just need to reboot to get up to current rev level. Doing so now. Cheers!

Thanks for the information. Maybe Edge turned off? Maybe filters? who knows. If you discover more, let the forum members know by posting. Glad you are now up and running on your two rigs.

Sececio, i have heard of people having to disconnect their routers to install Windows or their updates & i have not found a reason why this should happen ! I guess as they say "when it comes to electronics anything is possible" !
