Insider KB5017389 Windows 11 Insider Release Preview Build 22621.608 22H2 - Oct. 4

UPDATE 10/11:

Hello Windows Insiders,

As Panos announced a few weeks ago, we have an additional set of experiences coming in October for customers on Windows 11, version 22H2, as part of delivering continuous Windows innovation and value. We are beginning to roll out some of those new features to Windows Insiders in Release Preview on Windows 11, version 22H2 Build 22621.608 (KB5017389) including:
  • New! We enhance File Explorer. It now includes tabs to help you organize your File Explorer sessions like you do in Microsoft Edge. On the new File Explorer homepage, you can pin important files for quick and easy access. Using the power of Microsoft OneDrive, you can view your colleagues’ actions on your shared files. We also provide personalized suggestions based on your Microsoft 365 account.

  • New! We add suggestions for actions when you copy items. For example, when you copy phone numbers or future dates, we provide suggestions, such as make a call with Teams or Skype or add an event in the Calendar app.

  • New! We add a taskbar overflow menu. The taskbar will offer an entry point to a menu that shows you all your overflowed apps in one space.
  • New! You can now share to more devices. You can discover and share to more devices, including desktops, using a nearby share.

NOTE: Not all Insiders will see these new features right away as we monitor feedback before pushing them out to more Insiders.

Thanks,
Windows Insider Program Team

It took 3 tries till it decided to install, but it fixed smthg and it is starting to look a bit brighter, back to 17GB, but I miss tabbed explorer.
May I ask how you got C:\Windows to 17GB? I'm at 23GB and not sure what's hogging.

My C:\Windows is 26 Gb but size on disk is only 17 Gb due to so many small files.

That is pretty normal. Getting rid of hibernation is ok if you never use it. Do not get rid of pagefile - even if you do not need it much a small one is advisable for logging etc.

As for apps - some people go way over to save a few GB, and then later whinge when they get issues reinstalling apps.
I just uninstall the apps that have a proper uninstall button.

Try downloading and running Wise Disk Cleaner -- their free version. That will find lots of stuff and allow you to remove it safely.

I recall on another thread you mentioned doing a Repair Install every few months as a form of cleanup. Do you still recommend that?

Hi folks
I can't get past 22H2 22622.598 --- just says Up to date -- so is there any way to get the .607 update. The Windows insider program seems to have gone bonkers too -- doesn't seem to be a way to "Un-join it" or set your level.

Is there some enablement package that can be downloaded so that WU can update this release.

@cereberus

just seen your post about 3 back.

Did what you suggested and update is now working --- thanks !!

Cheers

you can create your own msu file and update it via command line.

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:E:\Downloads\Windows11.0-KB5017389-x64.MSU

you need to loo at "PSFX2MSU" https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/abbodi1406s-batch-scripts-repo.74197/

or just delete downloads folder in c:\windows\softwaredistribution, and check for updates again which normally kickstarts updates, which was what @Jimbo did I believe.

This is really not needed - sort of a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Good housekeeping is all that is needed.

That's very much a personal preference. I like to keep the used space on the OS partition small because it cuts the time and space needed for my weekly backups. But, running disk cleanup apps removes most of the crud, anyway.

I did try this. coming from 22622.601, I uninstalled KB5015669 to return to build 22621. then, I build MSU using that method, and when installing using DISM, I got error 0x8007000d

At least I'm getting updates via WU --

I was stuck on 598 but this is working -- and probably will need another update to get to 607.

Recently moved from Beta to RP. Also uninstalled KB5015669 as it causes CPU performances issues when doing some copy and cut functions in Firefox. I miss the tabs in FE, so hopefully the issue will be fixed for the next release.
