Maybe sometime, in the not so distant future, in a galaxy far away, I'll give Canary a shot again in a VHDX when I have an updated ISO.....

Lenovo can mean two different product lines of machines. Those that are Lenovo's own models and those that are ThinkPads which came from when Lenovo boght the IBM PC division from IBM so they are different quality of machines. So a lot depends on which Lenovo you are talking about as one is business grade and high end.

Yes, different grade of machine.

The IdeaPad design marked a deviation from the business-oriented ThinkPad laptops, towards a more consumer-oriented look and feel. It also doesn't have the red trackpoint mouse in the middle of the keyboard. This is something that both IBM had in red and Toshiba had in green and Dell also had in the Inspiron 8000/8100/8200 machines in purple except Dell's was made by some third party company and drifts most of the time.

Sad day indeed when IBM stopped making laptops.
When the news came almost a year earlier, it was devastating for many but not unforeseeable.
There was no money to be made any more on laptops.
Sony followed a few years later, and so did other main brands.

My first IBM ThinkPad was a 385ED from Radio Shack on Market St near Kearny St in San Francisco and then I bought a IBM ThinkPad 770Z 9549-8AU which was the latest and greatest from PC Connection and I think I had a bad system board or something as the entire machine died a month later then the 14.1GB TravelStar HDD which was the largest capacity and greatest at the time completely crashed and not one of the 10 data recovery companies can recover the data. The service company ordered me extra parts to keep so I basically had a extra enclosure and everything. Were you on Bill Morrow's Thinkpads.com? I still have Sony's MicroPC running Windows XP in the 007 kit which included a digital camera, all of which is still sealed in it's original box.

I meant online as Bill Morrow's site was basically where a lot of the people who used thinkpads were in general. It's now on Facebook as well. Bill is in Florida.

Would rather run it as a dual-boot system on a second drive or in a Virtual Machine, much safer that way. Had a bad experience running Canary on my Lenovo laptop already so i prefer to play it safe.

I run Beta, Dev and Windows 10 in VHDX and it is much better for me.

Just my honest opinion here but if it runs efficiently for you, congrats then.

Being honest even though I seemingly haven't been having any issues that I'm currently aware of, I think that I'll go ahead and revert back to the 'beta' build that I was previously utilizing. I like your idea of being able to 'dual boot' as well as utilizing a virtual machine of which I've never seeming tried to do because I had it in my head that it might be too difficult. Also, I've always had a desire to try out a linux distro. Thanks for being polite and trying to knock some sense into this old mans brain.

Thanks so much for being so helpful & understanding with an older adult male that has always loved dealing with technology. At my house I'm currently dealing with the following technologies: ms windows, apple, android, so you could say from time to time I can get pretty busy.

The only thing I know of is the standard restore function of the Insider OS builds--that Davy49 was talking about. When it works, it works fine! I use these builds on bare metal and in my main desktop workstation at home--and so far, with the beta versions, especially in these latter years (I began in the Insiders on Oct 1,2014, when it was called the Win10 Insiders--man, it's unreal how time flies!)--I've had excellent reliability on the beta channel--which was not the case at all with the Dev channel, for the year or two I stayed there before moving to beta permanently. Things may be better down on the Dev channel today--but I just don't really know. Beta's fine for me.

I use Macrium Reflect with a reasonably small C:\ partition of 300GB to 500GBs, in which I keep the OS, all my OS-related utilities, and all of my device drivers. All of my programs and games, however, are stored in separate partitions & drives--of 1TB or smaller--just to keep things more manageable and better organized. I probably have ~10 TBs or so of drive space--as I just keep adding HDDs and NVMEs like a pack rat. Well, it's my hobby, you know, and my wife is very understanding, especially when I succeed in hiding the bills... :wink:

Nothing equates to the sheer joy you feel when you have everything all lumped together on C:\ and then C:\ goes down and is hosed--and you don't have a recent backup, and everything's gone, gone, gone with the wind... :wink:

So, I keep things divvied up in what to me are neat little arrangements and Macrium lets me keep 2-3 separate backups of my C:\ partition, each containing a different build--so if it goes down--all I have to do is to restore the Macrium backup--about 20 minutes, automated--and I'm back in business, without having to reinstall a single program or game. Anyway...I could talk about this stuff for days, so it's time to stop... :wink:
